i've been using a boss sp-303 for 4 years now, and just decided to get the 505 to upgrade. there are specific things i love about the 303, which is why i didn't go over to mpc or something else.
just about all of the samples i cut are from a very old reel to reel field production machine that produces a decent bit of noise. when recording into the 303, i can turn the reel to reel volume up very high, while turning the record level almost all the way down on the sampler, and the result is virtually no noise in the sample. this doesn't work with the 505, though, as turning the source volume up, even while keeping the recording level down on the sampler, makes the audio way too distorted. so the only way to avoid the distortion is to turn the reel to reel way down, and the result is noisy samples.
the 505 is so much better to work with, but if it can't record intense signals, it's basically useless to me.
so i'm going to the mpc1000. i've heard that the mpcs have awesome converters, so should i be alright?
