sold my xl, got another mpc1k. i missed it.

just wanted y'all to know!

i had a 1k from probably the first batch that they made, got sick of the bugs and other weirdness...sold it to GC and got an xl.

the xl is not any better. for me it was too dang clunky! and i missed the clearer high end of the 1k. although the eb16 was pretty f'in sweet.

my new mpc is fresh, at least so far. no bugs, no stupidity...the pads are hard but are really sensitive. way more than the old one. and i could swear the reverb actually sounds better than my old bug ridden one. also the buttons arent so hard on the new one like they were before, they used to hurt my fingers after a while. theyre more like the xl's softer buttons

so for now, im loving it and im glad to have it back. at least until a million bugs show up! (hopefully that wont happen)

what do you mean by bugs from the first batch and a brand new one? Bugs are solved by the os updates, right?

I'm just curious...

How are you going to be using the 404 with the 1K?

the 1st one i had was really messed up, but it was all intermittent things that would happen. so it took a long time to figure out that they werent so much bugs, as it was just a messed up machine. i kept a list of things that it would do that were just totally wrong and it kept getting longer, and longer, and longer....

new one seems great so far, none of that stuff happens (yet! ;))

I was messing with the xl this weekend at GC, and i didn't realize how much smaller the screen was in comparison to the 1k. But glad to hear your back with us.

I went to another MPC and came back to the 1k myslef. You won't miss the power of the 1k until you dont have it.

its kind of tedious, but i will transfer the wave files back and forth between the machines to really switch up my drums much quicker. so if i want to filter out the frequencies on my drums and samples i can just use the three knobs. then if i like the hit i sampled, transfer it back to the 1000.

or if i get really bored, i can chop us acapellas and throw them on the 404 and use a mixer along with the 1000 and i can do a buttload of mashups on the fly. i know what you are thinking....ableton live...well my pc sucks and i am too scared of pc programs......

enough rambling there are many purposes for the 404 and using it as a rough draft for samples that will enter the 1000 is another good use.

since both machines use wav 16 bit 44khz.......going back and forth opn both samplers will be a lot quicker.

pm me if you want to know more about my kooky ideas.

^ ^ not to mention the idea of having a different type of workflow and how it will influence the ideas that follow...it'd be like composing on a piano or an accordian - both keyed instruments (or in our case, samplers) but the mechanics themselves will generally lead to different creations.

using them together would be nice. when you run out of steam on your mpc or a producer's block creeps out of that sample you thought was so sick, you bounce to the other sampler.

not to mention using the 404's good effects to complement the mpc. it'll be like having the realtime filter sweeps and effects edits we covet so much.

anyway, just a couple rants. i actually want to play with one before i buy it, but i'm already pretty intrigued by what i think i could do with it.
