i got a brand new mpc 1k. i tossed my old one partially cuz i was getting this noise burst when loading samples. it was driving me bananas!

now im getting the same bug on a brand new 512mb sandisk and a brand new 3 hour old mpc that came loaded with os 1.07.

WTF!

i cant believe im the only one who gets this. please do the poll?!??! THANK YOU

edit: i think im only getting it on the sandisk cf card! not on the inculded akai one. maybe it's just the sandisk card? is anyone else using this here card?

maybe it is the wrong type of card?

I think mine's a Kingston, the brand of the card shouldn't really matter though. Do you get a noise on the sample or is it like a noise from the main outs when you're loading or what?

Haven't experienced this. Sometimes little clicks can show up when after trimming you swear they weren't there, but that even happened on the 4k.

And yeah, I'm not really sure exactly what you mean either, but I kinda doubt it has to do with the CF card as well.

download this zip'd file...it has 3 corrupted samples in there. they are examples of what im talking about

http://evansobel.com/ps/1k_buggy_card.zip

see those blippy noise bits at the end of the samples? the files i copied to the cf card do not have that. they are only there AFTER i copy them to the sandisk card. it has happened on boht mpc 1k's ive owned, on several different cards.

NO ONE else has gotten that????

(yes, the cards were formatted on the 1k)

Are you using the USB and transfering from your PC right into the card in the 1k?

I know that there are issues with that like you are describing. It wasn't the card, it was the method of transfer in that case. Getting a card reader for the PC and transfering samples that way have solved their problem.

I always used the card reader, so I never had that problem. The 1k's usb transfer is still a little buggy. I listened to those samples and that extra click at the end of the samples sounds exactly what people were talking about with the 1k's USB transfer bug.

Does this happen with saving samples that never leave the 1k? Sampling, editing on the 1k, then saving from memory to CF card?

i ALWAYS use a card reader and transfer directly to the card from my mac, then put the card in the MPC and load em up. if i use the included akai cf card i dont get any weird samples. if i use a 3rd party card i get corrupt samples like that, and so far it has happened with every single 3rd party card (if the card even works at all, a few didnt).

it actually happened regarless of whether i used a card reader or the MPC's USB xfer. basically it seems to be the card im using at the moment (a sandisk 512). im gonna return it today and try something else. even though it doesnt make any sense to me

thank you for checking it out. when i saw that it was supposed to be fixed with that os update i was psyched. no dice!

hmmm good question. i rarely do any actual sampling with the 1k though. it might have, im not sure. i usually take samples form folders of stuff on my mac or record stuff with mics there then export it to the mpc.

hmmm

That's messed. I only used Sandisk cards and the one that came with the 1k. Everything seems to be working fine.

Kinda sucks that you will have to buy a new card to see if the card itself is the problem, that's probably why you came here to see if maybe it's something else. But hey...the thing is...you could always sell the card on E-bay and get close to what you paid for it regardless.

By tiger vomitt Mon Sep 05, 2005 8:59 pm
