Wassup y'all

Ok, i'm in the process of reading the operation manual for my MPC1000 and so far i've moded and loaded some programs, made some tracks and sequences Now my problem is as follows:

I recorded a guitar part and slapped it into a software audio editor (Audacity), snipped off a riff and then sent it to Recycle as a .wav file. Recylce chopped up the slices and exported and saved a looped .akp and midi file (i.e my guitar riff) I then opened up blue box, spread the sample over tha pads like fries and gravy, created a program, then sent all the data, the program file and the midi file in the root to my CF Card to load into my MPC.

I then made like a dozen sequences, made some tracks and used the riff to go along with my own beats with tracks I made suing the mpc1000 demo programs but :
I cant' hear my midi tracks in song mode (after I convert the song into one sequence) . All the tracks i made with samples from internal memory with drum programs I can hear them well when I play back the song (i.e. the one long sequence thats left after converting)

I'm trying to understand the midi section in the book (end of Ch.3) but its messin' me up. They mention hooking up to an "external sound module". What constitutes an external sound module?Does this mean I cant hear the midi data unless I hook up midi cables to my soundcard's midi ins and outs??? I haven't even attempted to record into my software sequencer ' or from my keyboardcause I can't hear jack from my midi tracks. A confuzed mahfa

You have to make a new program for each sequence i.e if you wanna use the same program in different sequences, just rename the program you wanna use to "yourprogramname" followed by "1", "2", "3" And so on... Hope you get it!

create a program that corresponds to your midi information. find out what sound plays at what note and then what note plays at what pad on the mpc. then assign that sound at that pad and load your program. that should take care of it.

Saint, that guitar riff is loaded via BlueBox so it should be wav. right? OK, are you trying to sequence midi from that fantom? If so you may have to insert program change messages in the beginning of the 1st seq. If you're selecting programs from different banks, you'll maybe need control change messages also. Sounds confusing, but check it out. In order for the midi info on tracks to start from the beginning, a program/cc message must be sent to the keys (ext. module) so it'll know what program to play. Midi transmission is not instantaneous, needs a few ms to know what message to send where. What I do is put a small seq. in front of all your other seq., maybe 2-4 bars long with the midi info. If just loading program change....
mode: step edit
View: prg change
press F5 (insert)
do it
001.01.00 program change: # of prog used
NOW if you're using programs from different banks of sounds....
control change messages will specify the bank and prog.
mode: step edit
view: control change
insert
001.01.00 CC: 0-BANK MSB : 0
insert
001.01.00 CC: 32-BANK LSB : 0
the numbers that come after MSB/LSB are in the module manual to specify the bank
view: program change
insert
001.01.00 Program change : 1-128
specifies sound in chosen bank- may be listed in module manual 0-127
keep in mind, the midi info must be in THE SAME TRACK for each seq. in order for it to play correctly.

Thanxs every1 for the replies, this noob still aint got sh*t under control here:

Everything just got way too confusing for me attempting midi for the moment. Right now I started a new song/project over to use JUST .wav files in an attempt to make and convert a song that will play back exactly the way I created it.

I made 4 programs which I created with Blue Box, assigned 4 banks of sounds to the pads in the 4 programs and made sure that within each folder containing the programs I included all the necessary .wav files in that folder.

I then moded and loaded the 4 programs and started recording some tracks and made some sequences, but as I continue to make new sequences, I encounter that the programs aren't corresponding properly when trying to continue (ex: my 3rd program's 1st pad is supposed to play a guitar chorus, but it plays the 1st program's guitar intro - a sequence I already made!) The 4 programs have different names and I dont understand if and why they need to be renamed if they are different in the first place. Still Confuzed
