question about midi?

ok i got my mpc1000 hooked up to my cd player and then i have a korg triton le with a midi cable going from the midi out on it to the midi in on the mpc1000 and i still can't figure out how to record midi on the mpc. i can't hear the sounds from the keyboard either. i went into the midi section on the mpc and messed with all that stuff but still can't figure it out. do i need a cable going from the mcp mono/record to the keyboards mono so i can hear the sounds? do yall have any ideas?

To play/record midi:
mpc midi out A to triton midi in
triton midi out to mpc midi in 1
to use mpc as master, mode midi: active track rcv channel- all
soft thru- as track
sync in off
sync out AB
triton to be set to receive midi clock

you're also need the audio outs of the keys/mpc to go to a mixer-monitor system as previously mentioned.
