hey guys long time lurker first time poster. ive got a question concernign hi hats. when u guys are programming a beat are you doing the hi hat snare and kick all at once on a single track or are you separating those all on to separate tracks? ive had no problems getting my snare and kick too sound right but i cant get the hi hats in time for shit. any help would be greatly appreciated.

also does anyone know how to restore the mpc back to out of the box settings. i looked in the manual but havent found a way to flash the memory or reset it. thanks

im sure most people have hihats on their own track, that way you can bring them in and out with track mute

re timing:: maybe try a different swing setting? or maybe you knew that...

To get the kick and snare to have a good feel when playing realtime, I start with recording them on the same track. After I'm all said and done witht eh kick and snare I place them on their OWN tracks.

^ ^ likewise.

my advice is record kicks/snares on the same track, copy the track twice and delete kicks/snares respectively. then turn off time correct and then nudge them to a more specific place. record hi hats on a third track.

Yea i do the same i "play" the kick and snare in one track and move em out ( seperate them ) later for EQ and tweaks

As for hats you could note repeat you hats with some on off,s and layer them over the 16 pads with velocity or tuning,, on a seperate track of couse ,

as far as your hh programming, why don't you just use the note repeat button and have your TC on like 1/16 or something and hold the hh pad and the note repeat on at the same time. and where you don't wan the hat to sound lift your finger from the hh pad ad put it back on when you do

I sequence all my sounds on seperate tracks because I can easily edit them later on it Step Edit Mode.

I don't have a problem with sequencing each drum sound seperately because I'm used to it. 8)

I would love to do this...but alot of times I like my kick to be on the 16 levels (eventhough I only use maybe 2 or 3 pads out of the 16) Is it possible to take 2 levels from the 16 levels, put them on 2 pads...and have the rest for whatever...not sure if this is a stupid question?

You could layer 2 or 3 of the same drum hits on the pad you use and change the tunning for each one as well as the velocity to give you that effect

Assign the same sample to two different pads in the program and select the desired velocity for each.

Beat making is not easy... when its easy. Either you are on point. OR Youre doing something that has already been done... I have a friend who will remain nameless thats jacking snares and kicks from the masters (pete rock, madlib, j-dilla, premo).... which i think is wrong. yo, they already spent time solving that problem between the mind, the hands, and the ears.... There is nothing wrong with finding an album:
for example anything from "brass construction" snaging a snare, kick or whatever...which i luv the mpc for that. and freaking it with a filter or two. and q-sliders, son.... dont overlook them you be suprized at that on the fly ish you can come up with on that. yo. it's all hard work....sometimes you gotta sacrifice that time spent doing things that affect your music from being produced. Hip hop is a way of life.... Trust, take my advise... and make that -ish pop.

make that 1000 dollar investment worth it......

I've tried messing with filters and the slider...but somehow I must be doing something wrong...I dont hear any difference.
