Cooling the 1K off

I know its been mentioned before about how hot the 1K gets and it really does how about installing a super quite laptop fan ? i was thinking of doing this since im in my studio for hours at a time and i think for longlivity its best to keep her a little cooler, i looked and there seems to be space to put something in but i think one would have to make ventalation holes in the side panels as well which i dont mind doing since its plastic and its replaceable cause out of all my gear the 1k gets a little to hot and strangly Akai didnt make any ventalation vents anyware either , i mean if i look at my Mackie board that even has ventalation and it doenst get nearly as hot

well just my thoughts for the night, maybe im over concerned

interesting idea. if you don't get any comments pm some of the techies on this board.

I guess that would be good, only roadblocks i see is powering it which prolly wont be hard for the techies to figure out but also warrenty issues.

All the 1k models actually generate a certain amount of heat, so I suppose it's normal. I havent heard of any that have malfunctioned due to overheating. If anything, I would think that the metal housing acts as a heat-sink. I've also read on these forums that some people's ASRs get so hot that you can fry an egg on them, yet no malfunctioning either. There's no need to be over-concerned about this.

i posted about this but after feeling around my mpc when on for a while it felt like the place around the LCD screen was super hot. by the buttons wernt hot . so i dont really pay too much attention to it now.

I'm sure Akai does load testing on their production units (every other respectable hardware manufacturer does) where they will leave units on for days at a time to make sure there are no power supply or such issues. Also, adding fans to existing gear can be a messy job unless you've done it a lot; and most small fans (the size that would fit in the 1000) are not very quiet unless they are a very low CFM, in which case they are barely doing anything anyway.

I hear you and i thought the same its just i think electronic components get better life span when they not subseptable to alot of heat as it does degrade faster , maybe is just where i live the climate here is mixed humidity and heat ( +- 35-40 degrees and 20-50% humidity)and yes there is enough airflow in my studio

well ill see if i can find something quite enough that fits but yes some techs that could help with what area to get pwr from as i doubt i would get a quite fan for it that will run off the 220V supply.

Oh yes if the 1K pads use the graphite type pad design i have seen electronics that use the same design smuge off slightly due to heat and moisture, but i really dont know the pad design used so i could be very wrong

the other day i was at target and for $25 i saw a little cooling platform for a laptop. its basically a thin unit that you put your laptop on top of and it keeps it cool.

looking at it, it looked like it would be perfect size for the 1000 and it was pretty cheap.

if the heat is an issue you should just cop on of those.
