Went to see the man in question last at the Scala in London, and man did that guy rock it. Apparently it was the first time he played with a live band because previously he had been a one man show.
And what was an essentilal part of his set up. Yep you guessed it. The little blue box. :D

Don't know if he was using it just to trigger samples or for more trickier stuff but he seemed to be recording his voice and looping it.

Man its good to see the 1k in use, especially by such cutting edge artists such as Liddel.

It aint all hipperty hop.

Jamie's live show is something else. He doesn't use the mpc for the recording and looping his own voice stuff though. Thats all done with a custom max app Jamie built himself.

I spotted Autechre using an mpc1000 on their tour earlier this year, it wasn't all machinedrum like everyone said.

i saw liddell doing a gig using the mpc1k something like 1 year and a half ago i think (or maybe 2 years).

the funny thing is that i reckon it must have been a really early os version.
(ok i am not going to say "it's not the gear blabla" )

dope, thx for the link

would have loved to come down to the scala

i'm a big fan of the radiophonic workshop, he uses tape in the same way they did (which is how i first heard of him)

I recently saw Jamie Lidell in Switzerland, he said it was his birthday... I actually thought it sucked a bit, I expected more. Of course, he can sing very well, but that's about it. During the concert, I was standing on the upper floor looking down on the stage. He used the MPC to trigger drums and also sampled piano-chords. Other gear he had on stage included a Minimoog (which he couldn't play that well), a Korg MS-20 he used once during the show, as a noise source, and a Powerbook.... And there was also the VJ which played a bit of Hammond organ from time to time. There were also some tube effects I didn't recognize.

heh...i saw him a few week ago in Austin, Texas. About 15 minutes in to the show, some piece of gear started malfunctioning. it could have been his mixer, but you know what? I'm pretty sure it was the mpc1000, because thats where the backing tracks seemed to reside, and those went out...

he salvaged the show somewhat, with accapellas and singalongs, but i have to say, it was painful seeing our favorite blue box go down like that. To top it off, Four Tet was next, and although i'm not the hugest fan to begin with, his gear messed up also! it took like 30 minutes for tham to fix what looked to be a broken wall wart adapter. It was ok, because he made it up with straight playback and looping of album tracks, with liberal doses of Kaoss pad wank

lidell was great, saw him twice over the last two months here in vienna. he was using the mpc1k for triggering drums and vocalsamples (pre-recorded i guess). and yeah, he wasnt very good playing that minimoog and dont recall seeing him touching that ms20 he had there. anyway, i liked the show his vj (pablo picasso was his name i guess) was pulling off.
