I truly believe that technical limitations do help creativity. With or without os 2, mpc 1k does and will have such limitations.
I was wondering if any of you has developped clever technics and pgm layout in order to circumvent those limitations.
For example I was wondering if anybody tried to fake pitch bend with clever pgm, maybe using mute groups.
Maybe if someone did so, s/he would be willing to share those with sample pgm.
Unfortunately, I haven't been working with the mpc really hard lately so I can't provide any example. However I'm really curious, and interested in how we can expand the possibilities of our beloved mpc with clever tricks and I know many of you are clever.

Cut up the sample in parts, like how the beat would play , 1, 2, 3, 4 or even more tighter (meaning get the beats inbetween) then replay it on the MPC
and use the "T function" in the STEP EDIT and pitch it how u want it to sound.

Simple.

Thx, penfold.
You kind of made my point, stating it's simple. Well I wouldn't have done it this way.
My post wasn't only about fakin the pitch bend, it was about sharing clever tips and tricks, coz let's face it, even if we had an incredible soft on the mpc 1k, we'd still need those (by crazy I don't mean os 2, we'll find out soon enough).
So, my intent was just to start a thread where we could share techniques, just to help each otherr out. (not limited to pitch bend)
Thx anyway.

or for a more dynamic approach you can map one of the q-link sliders to tune the pad's sample:
Manual p.44: "For example, when you select TUNE as a parameter, moving the slider sends out the tune’s note variation data to the pad and changes the sample’s tune."

So what you're saying is that you won't get the new os when it drops?

i'm with krisk-one. i'm new to the 1k and reading tips on how to do things that were not intended for it would hit the spot.

tone synthesis with realtime filtersweeps

set note repeat to its highest range (or less if you want it more grainy)
trim a note sample to have a high attack
record a full 4-8 bars w/ note repeat
turn on the filter of your choice
put it on a qlink and hit the after button.

you can do this with many different pads of different notes, so it doesn't always have to be the exact same sample.

i do this a LOT.

Unfortunately, I thought this forum was about sharing techniques with the mpc, but it seems it's mostly about whining coz os2 's not here.
Thanks for the input though. I'm definitely too naive.

yeah, no kidding. it's like there are 2 groups - 1 who just complains about os 2 and the others who refuse to share their techniques

i approach the mpc the way qbert does a turntable. freedom of information. i'm actually about to turn my website into a page where i help people use their mpc1000s.

Well that's nice, and I might help you with that (I have some unused bandwidth - PM me), but I wasn't thinkin about help, more about sharing techniques, like you did. We know the mpc1k has its limits ( and will still be limited with the new os- which I'll get when it drops), and many of us will find tricks to circumvent those limits. I have mostly investigated synth soft languages such as Csound or SuperCollider but it's not an mpc related stuff, however many times I thought "Oh maybe I could find some trick to do that on the mpc, and/or without computer". So, since I don't believe I'm unique I thought many people would be happy to share their tricks, like for real, not their gift with photoshop(No offense to nobody).

yeah, technique over help for sure for my web page.

here's something i've done recently - create an all file where you have already named and ordered your tracks...

every time i power on my mpc now, i have the following tracks autoloaded (but no pgms, i build new ones each time i make a new song)

tracks 1-8 are all reserved for melody/filter sounds from the mpc
tracks 9-16 are all drum tracks, named appropriately (kick, snare, cym, perc, etc)

that takes care of track bank A.
B's 1-8 are used exclusively for midi w/ reason as a sound module. they are each assigned different midi channels and are loaded with the Chromatic pgm.

doing this keeps my shit ordered. if there's one problem i had before, it was different sequences where tracks were all over the place without any rhyme or reason to their placement. it's cuz i would just make them as i go along.

no more!
i will have this autoload setup available for download on my web page when i code it.

as for the bandwidth my plan is unlimited...thanks though!

Yeah, unfortunately, it's turned into that lately and it sucks.
It is all about sharing techniques but you if no one wants to share then that's that you know. Your not naive at all ur right on point, u just gotta rub them the right way, water them and feed them and eventually you'll get the info outta them. :D

I didn't mean to diss this board.
Yeah of course I should share my great techniques in order to get feedback, but the fact is I have none. As I said I've my mpc for more than one year, but I couldn't do much with it.
I'm not that in need for new techniques. I only thought it could be a nice place to share. See, I've started making beats with an atari and used a revox and ampex tapes to make samples, so I'm used to be limited. I'm really happy with my mpc as it is, I'm broke, so I edit my samples in audacity, I also use the mpc as a midi controller/sequencer for SuperCollider in which I design my synths.
So, unfortunately I don't have that much meat to give away.
Then again, I've been reading this board for a long time before I registered, and since some peepz show off in here, I thought they'd be happy to prove how knowledgeable they are with the mpc.
But I have to stress that I really like the forum, and I'm happy with this thread, since penfold and mostly antonym gave really valuable input in here.
Sure enough I'll try to provide input as well, I'm confident that there are many clever guys/gals hangin around to make my future inpunt even better with their comments and alternative technics.
