Why do I need CF cards if the unit is expanded to the 128 RAM? I am about to buy an MPC 1000 and don't quite fully understand this. Please explain why I would need to load samples on CF cards (I thought 128 RAM is enough to load all the samples you would realistically use?). I am sorry this is such a stupid question, but I do not know the answer, so please take pity!

because you dont save your beats to the internal ram, you save them to the cf cards

i will answer your question seeing as this is your first post and you just joined today but before i answer, i just want to say something:
sparq wrote:please do yourself a favor, before you ask........ search . 8 times out 10, your question has been asked. if after you search and don't find your answer, please make sure that you post in the proper forum. (i'm not saying you don't do this already) and just because a person wants to talk about national/international politics, it doesn't mean you post in the 1k section just because you have a 1k.

i said all of this because, following this rule, you will get less people trying to clown you and more people trying to honestly help you.

now, to your question..... the reason you still need a CF card is because your extended memory (128mb) is your work space. you load and save your work on the CF cards. if you are working on a beat and did not save your work b4 you turned the 1k off, you will lose everything you just worked on. the 128mb is just a temporary space to do your work.

i think this will be as simple of an explanation that you will get.

RAM is the memory inside the MPC. You can create a program with samples and sequences up to 128M RAM (if you have expanded it to that capacity). When you shut the unit off, however: *POOF* All your hard work has been sacrificed to the gods of sampling. So to save all your work (samples, etc.) you save it to the CF card. Got me? This is also where you dump your samples to from the computer, so you can have CF cards with all your samples on them, too. But the MPC doesn't save anything in memory once its shut down, you need to load and save to and from CF.

I hope that clears it up.

Ah HA! So, the RAM is just your temporary workspace, whereas the CF cards are your permanent info. You'd load only part of what is on the CF card into the RAM and work with your song with what is on the RAM from there.

Since I've (sort of) got your attention, I have a Vermona DRM1 mkII drum machine I'd like to sample and sell. Can I sample it directly from the Vermona to the 1000? I guess I'm asking can I sample audio instead of having to record the Vermona to a computer and thus making it a wav file.

Yeah, you can. It's very easy too. All you need to know about sampling into the 1k is right in the owners manual, as well as the quick manual.

Sorry it's not. I am serious. You're just adding to "the spam". Anyway, I have but a couple more questions. I find the search feature in these forums as a bit lacking because you can't search titles of threads and thus an abundance of results come back. I have heard a whole lot in reference to a new black 1000 as well as an OS 2.0. As far as I understand the black 1000 will come with OS 2.0 but the older, blue 1000 will be updateable to the 2.0. Now, I have these questions:

1. Is it true that a black 1000 will be released when 2.0 is released?

2. Can you list or refer me to a feature list of v.2.0?

3. What is this about the 1000 only 2mb of 40mb or something? Some bug with the OS? Can someone elaborate?

I am on the verge of deciding between an MPC 1000 or Machinedrum-UW so it is important I find out as much as possible before I buy. THANKS.

i've said this before recently, and either this is the case or 1k users in generally are the dumbest bunch of sh!tkickers alive. this post may be an exception to that but....

soo many stupid questions get asked in this forum. i'm not noob bashing, but if people spent the amount of time thinking about the answers to these questions as they do posting asking for the answer, they'd already know.

i suspect the same.

**** you and yours. I'm going to just buy a MD-UW. You **** are rude. I told you IT IS DIFFICULT TO FIND DECENT ANSWERS WHEN THE SEARCH FUNCTION DOES NOT LET YOU SEARCH TITLES and so you get thousands of hits back and 99.9% of those aren't what you are looking for. This will be my last post so take care!

well like i said, this post might have been an exception, but i now doubt that.

good luck with your MD-UW, :? whatever that is.

**** you too, you little ****. If rich boy has got the money to buy a Machinedrum-UW (that goes for twice the price of a 1k) why don't you pay some people to search the forum for you? Douchebag.
