battery power is doable for a smartass (good luck)

i'd like to see the mpc from all angles, and no i'm not into gear that much!!

especially pics around the power supply! think you can see where this is heading.....

it's cos i want to try powering the mpc1k with a battery, i'm asking for pics cos mine is still under warranty, and i don't want to invalidate the warranty by opening it!

do a search around this section of the forum. there are quite a few naked 1ks floating around. i don't remember if any of them showed the ass of one (the power supply area)

edit: this is exciting! the power supply fills the entire right hand side (in the pic) of the mpc! i dont think it'd be a problem to add battery power!

ok, well, here's the plan:

first of all, opening the mpc when it is connected and switched on is stupid, if not lethal and, perhaps more importantly, will void any warranty you have, so if you stupidly follow the following instructions, you do so at your own peril!

get a 'silent' power supply for a mini-itx pc eg:


this takes a 12V input, and gives you a variety of voltages output.

get a laptop battery that outputs 12V, preferably lithium-ion.

use a multimeter to find out what voltages the actual mpc mainboard takes. you would measure the voltages at the different pins on the end of the bunch of blue wires:


connect the corresponding voltages from the mini pc power supply and the battery to the power supply's input, and you should have power!

this is the 'dirty' method which, theoretically, should work, but will obviously need some refinement.

ok, here's the thing, as stereoroid pointed out to me, it says on the mainboard of the mpc "50V 2.3A"!

now, i'm sure the whole battery power thing is still doable, but it will probably a one off thing for those that are tech-savvy enough to do it, as opposed to buying off the shelf PC parts and just doing a little soldering.

well i'd suggest using an existing circuit from another piece of equipment, but that is way down the line my friend, way way way down the line!
