Was wondering how much faster the usb/hard drive transfers will be compared to usb/cf card.

The other day my CF card was buggin' so i decided to dump all of the data to my mac and format the card. It took over 2 hours to transfer 800 mb of data from the card & another 2 hours to add it back after formatting the CF in the MPC. Talk about a pain in the ass.

Would USB 2 be such a hard thing for akai to implement?

Will the hard drive improve the speeds much? I'm sure it's been posted but can we throw 7200rpm drives in the mpc?

i recommend getting a card reader, u can pick em up for like 5 bucks, and file transfers a really quick....if u hav ur reader next to ur mpc its only takes a few secs to pop out the cf card and put it into the reader, xfer ur files at a MUCH higher speed, and then pop the cd back in the mpc. as the mpc only reads the cd when u load and save, u can do this throughout any beatmaking session. i only got my cd reader two days ago, and it is so much faster, ive had to back up 300 megs worth of stuff and format the cd and put all back again (i formatted on the mpc), the files took altogether 10 minutes to xfer the whole content of my cf cd (300 megs) in the card reader....if i just did it in the usb/cf port, i would prob still b waiting for it to be done. altho i would be interested also to find out if the hard drive is any faster than the mpc's cf drive

hard drive will be much faster than a cf card - even if the card is connected to usb 2.

The HD in the MPC won't be faster since it still communicates through the same USB 1.1 port

that is why i suggested the external casing for the hard drive for when you are doing a back up. but to circument that (assuming you just want to move things from your computer to your hard drive) here's what you can do. still get the external card reader and transfer your files as you would normally do to the CF card, after transfer, load it up in mpc and then save to hard drive. or if you want to move small amount of things from the hard drive to the computer, load it up on the mpc from the HD then save it to the CF card then take the CF card out and transfer it to your computer via the external CF card reader.

yeah ive been doin that method, but still, my cf card is actin gay, 2 my files ended up being corrupted on transfer but fine in the mpc, ive tried it in 2 diff computers...but thats gettin away from the point.

yeah i suspected a card reader would speed things up. I guess i'll look into that and an external drive bay.

I dumped 1.4 GB of samples to my HD - it took 5 hours.

I just grabbed a usb 2.0 card reader and my transfers went from 2 hours to 5 minutes moving over 600mb. Well worth the 30 dollars. I'll be using the card reader from now on to update my cards.

Peace.
