better saving methods?

here's my issue - say you start up with a bunch of sounds in your sampler, extra pgms you eventually chose not to use. however, in the first stages of your beat, you save em all to a folder on your storage device entitled "pianobeat."

next time you open it up, you pare down the number of samples used - purge all those snares you didn't end up putting in, deleting the wack flute sample you tried to use too. next time you go to save it in that piano folder, you overwrite the existing files and seqs, project file, etc - but leave the other pgms and samples that you had deleted there to haunt you.

next time you load up that folder, you end up with the same pgms and samples you deleted. goddamn ghosts.

how do other people get around this?

I get around the "extra files leftover in the folder" problem by saving entire memory to a new folder and then deleting the old folder. It also gives me a chance to name my project more appropriately since i usually don't have a good name for it when I made the original folder.

I've just run into this situation too! What I've found is to delete the redundant programs from the CF card as well as the MPC memory (once you know which are the wack prgms/smples. Then, when you load the session back all you need to do is to purge samples. this way you'll have no dodgy prgs/smpl.
This is not ideal but it works for me because at the moment I don't want the be naming my song folder each time i save. I just want to save entire memory into a folder and get some sleep.

However I've only been using the 1k for a month and am open to other ideas.

One more thing, when the YAWN os2 is released maybe they'll include delete/save entire contents that was on my S3000 sampler.

Im Lazy like like this as well after a beat i cant be f.u.c.k.e.d to name my folder do i make premade named folder like PROJECT 1,2,3, and also save to a new folder

i did some real cool beat, only the beginning though, then save the entire memory in folder NEWTECH, okay no pb i turn the mpc on

later that day i feel like changing shit up, load the newtech folder, spend 2hours making my beat and save the entire memory to folder NEWTECH (overwrite:yes)

im happy as **** the hd is a dream for my mpc

later again, i want to hear what i did earlier, but what **** loads is my first recording session, the pgms created in my second recording sessions are there, but all the changes are gone

Same. The joy of having so much disposable space on my hard drive

so a question to all the hd owners (mines on order) how do you have thing organized i keep as seperate folder for programs, sequences, and samples, in the samples folder i keep folders for kicks snare etc...then i just move things back and forth with my mac...with all the room on the harddrive though this seems to a poor organization. any thoughts...also i keep no samples in my program folder, this is something that is bugging me a should move them to the sample folder...as you can tell i am super anal about organization. but i found that it makes my workflow easier.

Since you cannot have an overview of whats in a folder unless you scroll through everything to see, i thought it would be better if i put the less folders possible in one folder, not more than four subfolders in a subfolder

Thats my exact problem right there!!!! I was about to start a thread, but knew the 'Search function Police" wouldn't be far away. LOL

I start a new beat, I got the groove going. I save it as "Entire Memory" to CF Card. Turn it off.

I come back, turn it on, load up the Project file, and the beat plays fine. I add some more shyt to the beat. Go back to the same folder I saved it in initially, and save "Entire Memory" again, due to the recent changes. Turned it off.

Came back and loaded the same file, and it only has the first version of the beat stored, not the changes that I made.

WTF?

shit i was so glad that i got the drive... now im back to my computer

anyone get a folder error when saving entire memory...got it twice now i resaved and all was fine...just a wierd bug i guess

I had this too - very annoying. I need to do a bit more experimenting, when I get time (which might be a few days yet), but I think that there's an option that you have to select when saving the entire memory - I think it's 'Replace Same Files'. I think that you have to say 'yes' in order to update the .all and .pgm files that are associated with your project file. If you don't do that, then it saves only the project file, and not the other two. The project file only contains references to the other data in memory; when you create a new project file, it writes a '.all' file with the sequences and songs with the same name - unless you say 'yes' to replace same files, I don't think it will update the .all file, nor the program files.

Yeah, thats it. When you save entire memory, you have to always change it to "YES", otherwise, like you said, it will only save part of the memory.

And to evil little dru... I got the same error as well, but when I tried to save again, it went through fine.

You guys are playing with fire by just resaving after that error, I know that it works for the moment, but the more you do it you will start to build up corrupt files on your CF card more and more, then you will start getting SYSTEM ERRORS and missing files, then all hell breaks loose.
