EXPERIMENTAL MUSIC

Who out there is using their 1000 to make non-traditional beats? By that I mean, not your standard hip-hop beats designed to have a rapper rapping over them, but experimental sounds in the vein of Prefuse 73, Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Jimmy Edgar, etc etc.

I'd be interested in hearing anything folks are doing in that vein. Ok peace!

That's good stuff, man.. Is it all sample-based? Or are using synths, your own scratching, etc. as well?

i use samples for drums and the guitar but there are no phrase samples. all melodies are my own. i then go into reason and interpolate and go nuts with softsynths and added percussion/drums. top it off with turntabling wav files via serato and that's that.

i use a bit of everything. except vsts because i'm too lazy to learn live5....

I use it for nothing but; although it's used more as a scratchpad and sampler than a full production tool. At being those two things it is almost perfect (24bit would be nice!)
I'll try and upload some stuff at a later date.

I guess you can say that most of my hip-hop songs are experimental. I'm used to writing songs with melodies, so it's hard to leave them out

GLR hasn't released shit in ages & Bukem is notoriously choosey about what goes on his ( now pretty much defunked ) label.

I used the mpc1000 for dnb, breaky drumfunk stuff, etc. I use it in conjunction with a kaosspad2 & virus c & lots of resampling. The new OS is going to be a godsend to those of us trying to do more heavily edited crazyness.

Thanks for the kind words. Blake Beat 3 is my personal favorite. BTW, there are no instrument phrase samples in any of those songs. I purposely went for an "old record sampled" effect in BB3, but all of the tunes are original. Even the guitars are live (played by a friend I collaborated with on the BB songs). Anyway, this is just a hobby. I make music because I enjoy it. I'm flattered by your comments though

Here are a few snips for you to check out. This is a cross section of the stuff that comes out of my MPC All un-ed'q, unbalanced and unmixed just incase you think the quality isn't all that. All the drums are from the MPC. The melodics are either recorded in then looped or are sampled as notes/chords and 16 leveled.
