Making sequences with external sounds from a roland fantom x

OK i have a mpc 1000, roland fantom x6, big mixer, monitors...

so how can i make sequences on my MPC with fantom sounds playing? is there no way to do this i just need an external recorder? or do i need audio cables to get the audio that the keyboard is playing too? i want to be able to do drums on mpc and then have riffs on keyboard and be able to sequence it ALL in MPC so i can arrange them in song mode to make full length songs. The only thigng im not getting is how i can actually get my MPC to save and play the roland fantom sounds in its sequences and be able to pull it up without it just sounding like piano or something ya know? thanks!

Also if there is a way to maybe combine the fantom loop and mpc loop into a wav and import it to my comp and then i could sequence it on FruityLoops? i think it would be easier to just use the hardware but if i could just figure out how to make them actually "sync" together i guess, you know have em all the sounds (including fantoms) on one sequence on my MPC ,then i could go into song mode and play a full length song using MPC and keyboard noises, all i owuld need is a recorder, so if anyone could help me out with this id really appreciate it.

Q. How do I connect my keyboard/synth to the MPC1000 and how do I control the sounds of my keyboard?
A. Connect the MIDI Out of the keyboard to the MIDI In 1 of the MPC1000 and the MIDI Out A of the MPC1000 to the MIDI In of your keyboard.
Set your keyboard to LOCAL OFF.

On the MPC1000, Mode: MIDI/SYNC, MIDI tab, set "Active Track Receive Channel" to ALL and "Soft Thru" to AS TRACK. After that, your keyboard will play the same sounds as the pads, i.e. whatever is set on the selected Track. The MIDI field of the selected sequence Track, on the Main page, controls where you direct the MIDI output from that Track. You can use this in combination with the Program field, so one Track can control both the MPC1000 sampler and/or an external synth. To automatically select sounds on your synth, you can embed Program Changes in a sequence by recording them or using the Step Edit Insert command.

Of course, this only covers the MIDI data, not audio. To hear both the sound from the MPC1000 sampler and from your keyboard, the audio outputs of both units should be connected to a mixing board.

Ok i did that, i put it on those settings ok, and now i cant hear my keyboard at all no matter what key i press or anything, just the MPC, does the keyboard have to be a slave or master? How can i get my keyboard sounds to play in MPC sequences?

and even up there it says this only converts the midi data, not audio, im trying to get it so i can sequence whole songs on my mpc with multiple sequences using different keyboard sounds. Is this even possible? been goin at it for weeks and it seems like i cant even do this, but i mean there has to be how else am i gonna make friggin songs! im sick of having to use one sequence because i cant use different keyboard sounds please help!

i know someone knows how to do this, and if i could just figure out how to do this one tihng you dont know how much it would step my game up, like i got chorus's and verse's and stuff but i cant put them together because everytime i wanna change the beat i got to load up another song on my fantom and just play them together through mixer, until i get an audio recorder so i can record what my mixer is hearing , how can i sequence the fantom and mpc together on the mpc using keyboard sounds and ACTUALLY BEING ABLE TO HEAR THE KEYBOARD SOUNDS.

any help would be greatly appreciated this is getting kind of frustrating and id really like to be able to make full length songs bt until i can use my keyboard sounds and save them in sequences on my mpc im going to have to do it sepereate. ill throw someone 20 vynils if they can help me do this lol please ive tried the manual every site every forum I CANT FIGURE OUT HOW TO DO THIS AAAH!!

i read the thread up there and i see how you guys dont answer if you dont like the question or whatever, im sorry if i asked it the wrong way or wrote it wrong but this is something that i SERIOUSLY need help with, ive looked all through my fantom and mpc manual searched online searched forums read everything i just dont see what else to do. the only other info i got is someone said something bout something called midi dump but didnt even explain what it was oor how to use it so if someone could just maybe even point me in the right direction of a website or something that would be so great, appreciate it guys...i got some awesome beat ideas going and i got chorus's and all but until i can sequence them together in one sequence on my mpc im not going to be able to make full length songs and that sucks thanks again..

Did u have an Audio Cable from your Fantom to the Mixer/Speakers ?

I Sequence with my MPC and use my PC as and sound module and record it to PC....MPC -> Mixer -> PC
PC -> Mixer - PC

midi up like the guys said before.
have the speakers connected to your mixer.
have the 6 out on the fantom going into your mixer.
have the 6 outs from the mpc1000 going into your mixer.

on your track you have to select if you want DRUM or MIDI then select the correct midi bank a1-16 or b1-16.
play drums on mpc, then record midi for the roland on a new track. choose a new midi number and choose a new patch in the rolnds performance bank and you can use 8 different sounds from the roland and as many mpc kits as you need (up to 20 or 24 or something.)

thanks fer replies and yes everythings hooked up correctly, i tried to use it yesterday messed with midi options and everything but when i pressed the keyboard no noise would come out even if i had the track on midi, im going to try to go do exactly what ease said and mess with it and see if that works and ill let you guys know thanks again

Ok look im on track one, i have program off, i have type:midi, midi: on, on keyboard the local is off and i believe it is set to be a master? with these settings on i can hear niether the keyboard OR the mpc what is my problem? i tried changing the program to a different program on my mpc and apparentyl my keyboard should play the mpc sounds but it doesnt

ok i have it on A1 but it wont play any sounds from keyboard? what do i need to do on keyboard?

ok when i was messing with it a sec ago and i put it on midi allof a sudden it workedd but it didnt really work it was messed up all of a sudden it sounded like every sound from my drum kit playing at same time repeatedly like it crashed or something and my mpc froze....had to turn it off. now when i have midi on and i press a button on the keyboard it will play a sound from my mpc but it will sound all loud and messed up like really wierd like huming crashing noise until i turn the channel back to off?

so when i have channel on 1a and i try to play with keys it like really messes up bad plays a really bad sound but when i have the channel off it will play it fine. i really think there is a problem with my keyboard settings or something, no one has yet to tell me if i need the keyboard to be master, slave-midi, slave-mtc or something i really need some help with this if someone doesnt mind or can find it in there heart to help a fellow producer move on.

im trying to get it so i can record fantom sounds into mpc by the way im not even trying to play mpc sounds on my keyboard i want to do the opposite really so i an save everything into a sequence on my mpc remember?

yo chase... have you gotten this all figured out yet? i been searchin the forums too and found this subject in some shape or form but no one seems to have the answer.

i just got the mpc2500 and the fantom x6 and what i want to do with it is:

1) make beats on the mpc (maybe even sequencing)
2) use the fantom for creating the sounds
3) use fantom as the mixer
4) use fantom to record the tracks

i tried making the mpc as the master (didnt work) then the fantom as the master (couldnt record the mpc)

can anyone else recommend a better set up? should i use the mpc as the sequencer? i dont need to use the mpc to input the fantom sounds.

MPC midi outA---->fantom In
MPC midi IN#1----> fantom out
Make sure your in Multi mode on the fantom, No need to turn local on off just leave it at factory settings


Plug the the fantom into your mixer so u can hear the sounds

In the mpc when u want to use fantom sounds do it like this
track 1 mpc change it to device 1a in the fantom go into pattern mode and the first part. when your done with the first part change to mpc track 2a
change tracks on the fantom so your in the second part and pick sounds to record. and so on and so on.

On a side note. If u want to adjust the volume of your sounds from the fantom, YOU CANT USE THE MPC MIXER, you have to use the mixer on the fantom

that wierd noise you heard before is what happens when the midi goes round in a loop.
