i know, i know... i could probably figure this out by reading the manual.. but i'm not printing that whole **** out while i'm in florida, so i need a quick fix..

i've seen in a lot of the videos people copy their innitial sample track, turn the treble and highs down to create a bass track, so sometimes the other stuff could be muted... so, i guess, to not let the beat get monotonous.

i'm trying to figure out how to do that on my 1k.
can anyone tell me?

i think your talking about filtering, not sure if i understood you correctly.

get yourself a loop you wanna use, tweak it so it fit the tempo etc and is looping correctly.

then load that sampled loop on another pad in the program. in the program filter page apply a high pass filter to the first pad and a low pass to the second. adjust both of the filters settings untill you get them sound how you want.

trigger both at the same time and your sampled loop has highs and lows. now mess with it - dropping the highs out occasionally etc..

experiment with low pass filters

By aettri22 Sun Jan 15, 2006 9:32 pm
okay.. what i'm talking about is a pattern with a series of samples that's already in a track. for example, i took one big sample, chopped it and put it on seven different pads (so i could play it in time, it's a piano thing).
i already have the pattern and speed i'm going for.
is there any way that i can filter or put an effect on one entire track in a sequence?

you got to apply filters to individual pads, cant do it for whole tracks. although it takes more time to go through and apply them individually, its much better that way cos it allows alot more flexibility.

...tho it would be a nice option to have.

alternatively, what you could do to try and achieve the same end is use the the eq in the effects section and assign each of the pads correspondingly (from the mixer page). this saves you on changing the filter settings on each pad. but i doubt you'll get near as good results, its a lazy workaround. i've never tried it.

best off using the filters and taking time to set them up correctly for each sample.

If you're recording into a computer, find a simple low pass filter plugin, and use that. Or if you have/are going to buy a hardware synth with an audio in or a dedicated filter box, you could patch that into the mpc's outputs. It's difficult to do it with the mpc's built in filter, it won't work with long samples because the filter's not dynamic, and will only change cutoff at the trigger of each sample (until OS 2.0 comes out), and even when that isn't an issue, you can only filter sweep 1 pad at a time. The workaround is to do a resample of the whole sequence, with all the parts you want included in the filter sweep playing, wait for OS 2.0, then play that submix as a loop on one pad and sweep that. Easier to do the same thing by using a different filter than the one on the MPC

Once you've got your filter, the basic idea is thus: Set up a lowpass filter fully open (highest cutoff point). When the time comes when you want to break down the mix, quickly set the cutoff point to something quite low, but that will still be audiable, then gradually increase the cutoff back to fully open again. Add filter resonance to taste (probably not full, though, otherwise it'll usually self oscillate, and you'll get a whistling tone following the cutoff frequency, which is good on a synthesiser, not so good for filter sweeping a drumkit)

You could try to resample the melody/loop, and then assign that resampled loop into one pad and use the filters on that.

That will work, but only after OS 2.0 is out. Try filter sweeping a long sample with the Q link to find out why.

But you can do that without using Q links.
Just set the filters on the programs page, and then use 2 low pass filters on the sample. That works for me perfectly, but i gotta try your way when i get my hands on my MPC.
