I was thinking, there has been some talk of this new operating system not being a conduit for peoples rhythms/beats to improve. Perhaps it would be an idea to have a 2.1 Rhythm&Beats thread that is active purely to demonstrate the new capabilities that have been provided through this update. Perhaps it could remain in the 1k forum for a few months before being migrated to the general "Your Music" thread?

What say ye?

I'll start the ball rolling...

StylusRMX and Synth1(VSTi) were used to create a straight drum loop which was then sampled into the MPC1000 and chopped using the 'Slice' function to create a program spanning 16 pads.
The first 4 pads were left as normal while the other 12 were edited to provide chops. A percussive sample was also used to create a program along with some one shot drum hits.

All the twisty little sounds were generated by editing existing loop slices using the MPC1000's internal sample and program editing functions (Timestretch, Pitch Shift, Reverse, Filters, Phase FX, Reverb FX and LFO).

Enjoy

If this thread get's dropped then so be it. But I feel it could a good idea for any newcomers or potential buyers

Thanks. It's not something I would have done on 1.07 :) Right now I'm listening to a old D'n'B loop I made with 1.07 that now has real time filter modulation on the bassline.

That's a good point you made about showing the improvement. I think the main point of the thread could be to demonstrate the fact that the MPC1k is now a more powerful standalone tool that can hold it's own. Adding a computer to the equation is a bonus rather than necessity. You no longer have to keep running to a computer to do things like time stretch, sample division/slicing, reversing etc.

This thread is not really meant as competition or beat battle. Hopefully it will be about demonstrating an appreciation for an inspirational tool. Besides, it would be good to see what people are doing with this thing - how they are pushing the boundaries and maxing out the capabilities etc. Each person could, instead of posting mulitple messages, just edit and append their list of 2.1 beats with a short description of used features.

Antonym, I look forward to hearing some of your stuff ;) Samplers have had these 'new' features for over a decade now so it's not like it's bleeding edge technology is it. What you said is true. 'Starts up his chainsaw'
