issues with erasing notes in "except note" mode

is anyone else having problems with this function? when i choose erase note only i can hit the pads i want to erase but when i choose erase except note i cant seem to select a note and when i just hit the pad and hit 'do it' it doesn't erase my note. im going thru the manual and im doing it exactly as described (i think) but it doesn't seem to work. using os 2.10.. just getting my head around the machine but im not sure if this is a bug or if im just missing something here. if i choose erase except note on a track with a kick/snare.. then hit the pad i have the kick assigned to and hit do it.. there should now only be a kick on this track correct??

uselly midi chunks clawge up ,, meaning you need to erase the whole track,then start over, there's no panic button for midi like the 2000xl has .

PS ; you can reset set the pad notes from mid sync mode you'll see note, hit reset from there. jus experiment.
