Can you sample yourself playing guitar along with beats??

Hello everybody!

Sorry if this question has been asked already or has been phrased another way. I tried searching around and couldn't really find a definite answer.

I've made some beats using the MPC1000. I'd now like to play some live guitar and bass parts and sample those parts.

Here's my question. How can I sample myself playing the guitar or bass with the beats I've made playing at the same time, without actually recording the beats into that sample? That way my guitar playing will have the same feel and groove to go along with those beats.

Did that make sense?

I really just want to use the beats as a metronome so that it will be easier to sync them up later without having to use timestretch (or at least not too much) Right now, I've just been recording the guitar parts by themselves and trying my best to timestretch them to match the drum parts but it takes a long time and does not always sync up as nice as I'd want them to.

go into record

hit play to start the beat - hit record and start recording

hit stop when done.

this is one of the great things about the mpc1k

yeah its great for dropping some real bass, soft synth lines directly into the MPC

is this a new feature with the new OS?

I remember asking this same question a while ago and I was told that it was not possible.

If this is true I would've bought an MPC ages ago.

you couldn't really edit your samples as well, ie zone

what's this new feature called?

well, the new feature that makes it easier is called "zone"

but being able to record from an outside source is called "sampling" and is not a new feature of the mpc...heh

hehe. yeah but as far as I knew, it wasn't possible to sample while a sequence was playing. this is false?

false, it has always been possible since day one of blue MPCs.
sorry if you have been misled in the past.

This is the way I do things with the ASR-10. I just play my basslines and leads on the ASR along with the beat.

Is there a way to do this same task on the MPC 2000XL?

i don't have an 2kxl, but from what i've heard the answer is no.

I'm still a little confused.

This is from mpc2500 review in the newest Scratch.

"Sampling: Akai hasn't tweaked its sound quality on the unti. Keeping with its MPC2000 tradition the MPC2500 samples at 44.1kHz, 16-bit stereo with 32-voice polyphony. However, Akai did bless us with the ability to sample simultaneously, while bumping its pads or even dropping a sequence."

they make it seem like this is a new feature in the 2500.
