MPC1000 BK coming from Japan

Hi,

I'm getting my MPC1000BK coming direct from Tokyo tomorrow. I hope my pal won't get in any trouble through the French customs with it.

Is there anything I should be aware of before I start using it? Meaning any major difference I should expect from the blue version (apart from OS 2.1 of course which I have already installed in the blue MPC1000).

I will have the black and the blue MPCs side by side. If I notice anything diferent between the 2 (e.g. pads feel, sound quality or whatever) I will post it here later.

i received mine the other day via guitar center.

it came very stock. no memory, no hd kit, and it has os 2.0

OK, so here's the conclusion.

My pal got me an MPC1000BK in Tokyo at Musicland Keys. He paid it 100.000 yen. (690 Euro at current exchange conditions)
It went through French customs without a blink and was delivered at my door shortly after...
The good news are that it came with the HDM10 kit already mounted and the extra RAM as well (but I had to mount it myself).
The MPC comes with OS2.0 (14 november 2005). I shall probably upgrade it to 2.1 soon.

I personally think that the black colour scheme is not as nice as the red/blue combo, but this is only my taste. And as antonym noted: the rec gain and volume knobs are possibly the ugliest shade of grey that could be conceived... to make it worse the CF slot is that same colour...

Whatever, this is overall a very satisfying deal: currently MPC1000s (blue) are dropping in price (to make room for the BK models) and the last units for sale in Paris go for 690 Euro, but without the extra RAM and HDM kit (which nobody seems to carry or be able to order here in Paris...).

The feel of the unit is exactly the same, pads are identical and the sound as well.

One difference also is that the AUTOLOAD folder is loaded with a few programmes and kits and 32 sequences (two full songs and 30 short (2-4 measures) examples of drum beats). Nothing very exciting to me but I will send the whole pack to antonym so he can post it from its website (if he wants).
