MIDI record OMNI?

I went through the manual and couldn't find this one: how do you set up the MPC to record 16 MIDI tracks at once into 16 seperate tracks from an external sequencer. And is it possible at all?
As per now I could only achieve the following:
Record all MIDI data (fromp the 16 MIDI tracks) into one MPC track (not useful)
Record one MIDI track to one MPC track (I used 'solo track' on the source sequencer; it is OK, but I'd rather record all midi data in one pass, rather than recording each of the 16 tracks separately).

I'm bouncing songs from another sequencer (yamaha Rm1x) to the MPC. Thanks.

If you're bouncing songs from the RM1x, have you tried saving your RM1x sequence to a MIDI file on the floppy drive, copying the file over to your computer, then onto a CompactFlash card for loading into your MPC?

It might be quicker and more accurate than playing and recording the sequences (and you can get around the channel problem)

well, i don't have a floppy drive on my laptop.
that's the issue. Actually the data I'm bouncing is already as MIDI on diskette.
It seems superfluous buying a USB diskette drive just to transfer a couple of MIDI songs to the MPC.
I've finished the first song using the track by track approach and it took more than one hour. Is it humanly possible that the MPC1000 can't record in OMNI mode? Seems crazy to me. Even my old and basic akai S20 can do that!
I refuse to believe this.

I have never used it, but isn't this what the Omni modes in MIDI mode are for?

MIDI/Sync (pad 9)->Soft Thru: Omni[whichever ins you wanna use] or possibly As Track?

this only sets how the MPC transmits the MIDI data received. Doesn't affect recording of MIDI data unfortunately.

why do you not transfer mididata from rm1x to pc and then put it on cf card? i had a rm1x too, before i get the mpc1k. i think its one of the best sequenzers, but also had a lot of bugs (prg.change).... hope this helps

I don't have a MIDI enabled port on the PC, and I don't have plans to buy one (USB to MIDI interface...) as I don't use the PC for MIDI applications.

I'm not home right now to test if this works but have you tried setting the Active Track Receive Channel to ALL? ([MODE]+[PAD9], [F1])

BTW, I still have my RM1x. Haven't used it since I got my MPC tho

hey, i've got an rm1x too, and i'm pretty sure you can't record all tracks at the same time. it would be nice if it could though. but i think the 2 are a nice combo.

The 2000XL was capable of doing this. I doubt there was enough demand to port it to the 1k.
