So i was reading a post earlier and my biggest problem i've always had is that i felt i had to record anybeats with keys from my motif straight to protools because otherwise i'd have to write all the info down and plug it into the motif everytime i start it off. So now im hearin with the 2.1 theres a way to save your program on the mpc so it will load up the correct patches on the motif so i can always go back to an old beat w/ out having to have everyrthing written down. anyways if someone could explain this process better in conjunction with the motif es rack let me know. It would be greatly appreciated because its been buggin me for a while. This would make my life so much easier.

You can do it with the old OS too. All u got to do is save what u did on the motif IN THE MOTIF as well as IN THE MPC AS .ALL.

Name them the same thing and when u power up the mpc load everything up and go back to the program u saved it on in the motif also.

what u were reading about is MIDI DUMP which I hear is a headache to do

Nah Bruh, that's not it Jac. No disrespect but he need to go to program on the main screen and turn the dial until it says No.1

When you see that in the program field, hit the window button. You will see MSB 0 LSB 0. With the correct settings, you can have the Lil Blue Box select you program patches for you in real time. Set the program change and Bank select to Yes. When you go back to the main screen, that No.1 can select any of the 128 program patches from "x" bank accordingly. Viola!

RTM or Motifactor to get your MSB & LSB number correct.

I love this feature, now when I save the SEQ, the track that I have set up for midi from the korg / Motif / Roland etc... is automatically saved with it. Works like a charm.

Jac, you did give some good advice on setting up a template. I have a few different ones I use and a main one in the autoload file.

shiiittt, in the old 1.7 os all i did to restore program changes in tracks was easy, all i did was hit rec/dub in step edit mode and select on my synth the program sound im going to use and that was it thats like 2 steps easy as that, the only thing i saved in my synth was the alterd sound but, i dont think the epeople who ask these question are even reading the manual heh

jacpot is right. and so is putter.

i dont see why you have to write shit on paper?! just save the files the same name!

but The only problem i find with using msb lsb numbers is that if you change a patch while you are playing your loop when the loop starts again it resets the patch back to the original. So you have to re insert the lsb and msb messages back into your sequence everytime you change a patch.

The best work around would be to only insert the msb messages at the end of your session. ANd if you reopen your sequence, youd have to delete before you started switchin patches. OR you could use a blank sequence, enter all your messages in it, then use a second sequence for your main loop, so when you first load them up you start with the first loop, then switch to the second, and resave a new one with the new patch info.

I say **** all that and just save in two spots...........but thats me!
peace.

how many programs can the motif rack hold and are they prone to crash easily? im just afraid of this. I have read the manual but racks confuse the shit out of me.

There are four methods I've used for loading patches:

1) Record a sysex dump from your module into the MPC in a new sequence. Then play back that sequence at the start of the song. This is a good method to use if you're not using presets (i.e. va synth).

2) Save the multi or performance (or whatever your module calls it) in the module itself and call this up before starting the playback on the MPC. This is an easy way if you don't want to be bothered with sysex or MSB/LSB/PC values.

3) Insert MSB/LSB/PC events in Step Edit mode. This will call up the correct patch when you play back the sequence. Just remember to enter each event sequentially and not all on the same tick. This is the method I used with v1.07.

4) Select the patches for all your modules from the MPC (using the Pgm No. field). This is the way I do things now and IMHO the single best feature they added in v2.1. I don't even have to look at my modules or care what patches I'm loading. I select EVERYTHING from the MPC and it all gets saved when I save the sequence. The only preparation you need is to enable bank select and know what you need to set the MSB/LSB to in order to change banks in your module.

Hope this helps,

What is sysex/how does it work?

sysex is short for 'system exclusive'. it means a message that a particular piece of equipment will understand, but not any other (in most cases). However these sysex messages can be recorded and played back, so if you have a synth set up with particular settings, you can send it's current state via sysex messages in what is known as a sysex dump. these messages can be recorded into a midi sequencer (software or hardware), and then at a later date when played back, the synth will understand the message and all the settings will be retrieved.

it's kinda like working with a singer that doesn't speak a word of your language: you like them singing a particular way, so you record them on tape describing in their own language how they are singing, so that next session, you can play the tape back, which they will hear, and understand, and be able to sing that way again.

hope this helps.
