why pads on the 1k die faster. Have you noticed how many functions the pads serve on the 1k. Compare this to any other mpc, and it would make sense why they have tendency to die out. Since the 1k is smaller there aren't as many buttons, allowing the pads to serve all those functions that buttons would normally do. Add on not as good pad construction to it, and wahla. Just a thought I had.

i'd thought this too, then i looked at a 2000xl, i noticed it had secondary functions on the pads too. but true what you're saying tho, not half as many as the 1k.

I mean it makes sense. If the pads on the 1k are doing 3 times the an mount of work compared to any other mpc, then of course they are going to go bad faster... It just sucks... Man I love my 1k, and I'm debating on just gettn another 1k, but I'm not to sure... I just had 3 more defective pads fixed by VST. So that makes a total of 7 pads bad in the last 1year. I love this machine, but the pads are one of the main features on it, besides an awesome sequencer...I'm alittle iffy on purchasing another one....I've been considerin the 2500, but it seems like has alot features I wouldn't use.... I've also considered the 2000xl, but tis is besides the point...

i do think that a redesign of the pads could help too tho, i mean the little graphite square it just glued on, with no support. it just has to go wrong sooner or later.

take matters into your own hands....glue that graphite back on. and if your graphite is broken, buy a new sheet from online and build your own replacement...i assure you it's worth it. forget paying for replacements.

whenever i'm "typing" on my sampler i use a pen and full velocity. i just tap the pads with the pen. this might save you a little grief.

I just got my mpc fixed for the second time, but its under warranty. So its been free everytime. Not one penny spent getting 7 pads replaced... Unfortunately my warraty expires in 3 days...

hah! right on. i wish i'd done that.

i'm really curious about the replacement pads. is there anything you can tell me about em?

you guys are heavy-handed. i guess i've had my 1k for a year now and all my pads still respond like new with no problems. and i use that **** at least a couple hours a day, sometimes 7 or 8hrs. i saw how sensitive it was when i first got her so never really saw the need to abuse her. i may be wrong, just my theory. peace.

haha yeah you're not wrong but you're not exactly right either

the glue just comes loose. this can be from moving your mpc around a lot, a lot of use, being heavy handed, or what i believe to be the problem in most cases - a poor gluejob to begin with

being heavy handed would result in broken graphite. that's when i'd say to lay off the steroids.

word. or maybe they started using better glue at some point? you know, sometimes i got to get down and dirty with the drums but like i said, they holdin up just fine.

Your lucky for your pads being in good shape. Considering most of the time I've used my mpc the full level feature was on, and pads still went bad. Even though I was barely even pushin them. And maybe its b/c i use mine at least 6 to 8 hrs a day everyday.... Plus add how many features the pads control on top of that, and there you go.....

i use mine for hours each day as well. yeah, theres a bunch of mode functions but my point is, you barely have to touch the pads to switch between the functions or trigger sounds. especially when "full level" is on.

Yes your right. You do barely have to push on them especially when full level is on... I guess my point is I don't pound on my pads never have, and if I get another mpc nver will. I have use the full level feature on my mpc for most of the time I've had my mpc, and 7 pads have gone pad. This is due to one defective pads (not so good construction of pads), and 2 multiple function use of the pads, more so than any other mpc....I understand where your coming from ppl out there that don't know to use an mpc do bang pads way to hard....

ever seen hustle and flow? when they're making music at one point, it shows the white guy banging the HELL out of an mpc's pads. it's sad. he's really smacking it to pieces.
