is the HD worth it?

iv been thinking about getting the HD for a minute kinda low on funds tho so i wanted to ask the ppl who have them is it a neccisity or a luxury my mpc sits right next to my pc and i have 2 1gig CF cards and i never fill them because i drag and drop from my pc to the card but is it just eaiser with the hd or is it just convient for the space im just trying to figure out if i wana spend the $150-200 for the kit and a HD

Yes, from a skeptic.

I posted a while back questioning why I would need a hard drive.
Well now that I have one I wouldn't go back to the old way.
It has completely changed the way I use the MPC1K. The hard drive + OS 2.1 is like having a whole new MPC. All my samples and loops are on the hard drive. I'm saving projects more often now ( A huge time saver!)
I'm chopping loops way more often instead of contructing kits from scratch.

I still don't use it to "sample" Who can afford all that vinyl!
Who can afford the copyright issues?

I'm slightly worried about "backing up" now though. That's the only drawback of having the hard drive. If it fails I will lose so much more if I haven't backed it up.

the thing about backing up. if you do not go the route i suggested months ago (buy external usb drive casing) just back up in increments. so you don't have gig's worth of shiz to back up at once. like if you did a full back up one week, next week only back up the new stuff since your last full back up. that saves a hell of a lot of time when doing it that way.

Yea it worth it saves money in the long wrong, Sparq told me over the phone once that that CF card is good when you want to bring your samples in a freinds crib. But HD10 is good to save loads of stuff. Thanx Sparq. Im ordering mine this week with some new RAM working on 16MB still.

yes. i got a 100gig seagate today and lovin it. now i just tryin to figure out how to organize everything.

What I did was hooked my MPC to the computer (usb)and created folders so I could just see what it would be like to drag from the PC to the 1k (lol)
but serious. here's my folder setup.

Samples
Loops
breakbeats
Drumkits
Songs individual folders
and so on. pad!, post the seagate info or pm me I might get one later I'm using the toshiba 40gig which is ok for now.

And as for skamgdi. You don't have to spend $130 and up for a harddrive partna ,I only paid like 70bucks
and 35 for the kit.Get the kit first, then hd at an online store.

one thing i've noticed is when i audition my samples the is a faint but distinct click/pop sound not coming from my vinyl but when i load up the sample its normal. no big deal, this thing is a straight up beast. i actually didn't feel like waiting for shipping so i went to best buy and got them to price match it.

I paid a total of $80 w/ shipping for my Seagate 20gb hd and hd kit on ebay. And it is totally worth it. And I paid the same amount for my 1 gig flash card last year.

I think you might be getting that click because its a 5400 rpm HD. 7200 rpm HDs is suggested speed for audio.

as someone who's still using cf cards, i want to kill myself.

all of my shit has to get backed up on my computer through the usb function because i'm always running out of space.

i can't wait to get an hd. unfortunately, cash only comes on holidays and every two weeks (usually those checks go toward traveling, though.)

There´s no chance a 5400 rpm disc should not be able to keep a single stream of audio intact without clicks or dropouts. You might be needing to look at faster discs when you head for 8 or more of simultaneous tracks or to record several tracks while the disc is playing back several tracks. There isn´t any need to install top of the line HD´s as I´ve seen some are doing, if the MPC 1000 was a multitrack recorder I´d see the point, but saving and loading samples, usually under 5 MB, isn´t such a demanding task.

I have experienced some lagging when I audition, as I change sample and press audition it takes a moment before the samples auditions, I would guess that has something to do with OS 2.1 as I have felt the same lagging sometimes when editing samples and moves through and between screens.

so ryssen, i got the monumentus too and do you notice it makes a little click when u turn the mp on??? its kinda cool. not thru the headphones though. totally irrelavent i know.

thanks pad, I've hadn't had any problem with pops and clicks on any harddrives in the PC or MPC. But the latency problem from what I've learned ,is do to Ram,CPU,speed of the hd,and DMA all combined,which leads to Sync mode problems is the reason to getting those pops and clicks
I know,because of multi-tracking with win98se/CoolEditPro.

so it could be the RPM's of the hd and sync mode to the mpc?

i get this too. yeah its cool. the drive is super quiet and when it boots up it make a little beep sound and if you get real close you can hear her breathing. ITS ALIVE!!!
