first post so be gentle...

i bought an mpc1000 a few months ago. since then, thanks to this forum, i've upped the memory cheaply, i've got a new os, am about to get a HD, and i've got a serious craving for a paint job.

massive respect to everyone here, especially the amazing, all-knowing sparq. you're a legend, man... :D

as for the machine itself - for the price it's flawless.

just one thing i haven't figured out. samples can be oneshot, or note on. is there any way to start a sample playing by hitting a pad, then stopping it again by hitting the same pad? i'm guessing not...? i guess i can fake this by creating a mute group and hitting another pad in the mute group to stop the sample that's playing. wow. answered my own question while asking it. this forum's impressive...

you just asked a damn good question that makes me think.

here's what you could do. set the pad to MONO instead of POLY. layer your sample with another, but turn the volume on the 2nd all the way down. set the sensitivity setting of the first sample (the one you want played) to 100-127. set the other one from 1-100.

now, when you want to play your sample, give your pad a whack. make sure you're hitting it hard enough to register full velocity.

when you want it to shut the fukk up, give it a light tap. the silenced sample will play, cutting off the audible sample due to the pad being monophonic!

give it a shot...i will do the same, because it sounds good for live stuff rather than having 1 pad bogart a mute group.

peace, tell me what you tihnk.

I was just about to say the EXACT same thing, I use to do this with my 2kxl. Velocity layer switching, exactly what Ant just explained..
