How do you step record (step by step explanation anyone?)

Hey guys, thanks in advance for any help, im seriously looking into a new mpc1000 mainly for dance orientated music, step recording is pretty essential and id like to know how its done on the mpc, easy or complicated u know, any help would be appreciated, thanks

it's not as simple and intuitive as the old Roland 909 or Korg Electribes. the MPC is not that straightforward to work with in stepmode since it handles far more midievents than just noteon.
maybe you should just try it for yourself and maybe take a peek in the MPC1000 manual @ page 30 to see how stepedit works

Ive just had a look at the manual, it seems perfect!
basically i just need to enter 32nd and 16th notes one by one using a keyboard, rather than attempt to play a melody like that!
it looks very simple, but can you please tell me, as i can't find it in the manual, ( not that ive looked properly yet ) what the smallest Timing correction is, oh wait i just found it!! haha, 32nd's, is there any way to program 1/64 patters? its not a big deal but it is useful sometimes.

YeS! and this is something that's not gonna be in the manual.

here's what you do--say you want your tempo to be 100. use what's called double resolution. up your tempo to 200! this will turn 8th notes into 16th notes, 16th to 32, and so on. in this way you will have 64th notes quantised.

the other way is to record a quantised track of 32nd notes and then duplicate the notes within the track, offsetting the duplicated notes by the ticks necessary to make a solid 64th note patterns.

2nd question - check out my stuff at http://www.myspace.com/nymantics. it's not really techno, but it is somewhat advanced sampler usage in a kind of prog hop sense.

i'd also like to mention that the mpc series is most well known for hip hop. HOWEVER - this is incredibly misleading, because i've found that a lot of hip hop producers on these forums are only tapping the top of the mpc iceberg. SO MUCH MORE can be done with an mpc than what the majority of hip hop producers are doing with them, ESPECIALLY the mpc 1000.

not that house and techno won't swing the same way, i'm not making a genre statement, but rather i'm scolding users who really aren't sinking their teeth into their instrument.

Okay, let's return to the core of this forum, the MPC. To answer your question about dropping notes. Some people have reported about that in the past.
Personally never had any issues with it. The internal sampler is 32 notes poly and if you know what you're doing with mute-groups and everything i guess your fine. Also never had problems with sending midi note data from the MPC to other modules, if that's what you're referring to.

Yeah that is what i was refering to thanks! about the rubber pads, hhaha, thats funny, although i seriously hope thats not your real understanding of it, mate ive done far worse, me and every other christian i know, loads worse. thats what its all about, proper forgiveness, for yeasterday today and tomorrow.

i wouldnt have though note loss would happen while sequencing midi for sure thanks for your response though, hells to dark to see though and your equiptment would melt, plus you cant actually take anything with you
