i've stopped using the mpc1000's quarter inch outs

and started using only its spdif out. quality has been much better, even in just playback. coupled with a good pair of moniters, it really lets you listen to the sound you're working with...it's so much brighter a sound than the stereo outs. it's also cool cuz it really lets you "hear" the 16 bit...esp on basslines and low freq noises.

yeah, it does mean you have to have your pc on when playing from the mpc, though.

I'm gonna do the same with mine, just need a longer SPDIF cable, i've been sampling with the digital in too as my turntables have a digital out

I doubt your turntable has a better AD converter than the MPC. But a professional soundcard might.

Instead of using jack out or s/pdif, why not just use the "sampling main outs" function and transfer the wav file via usb/ card reader?

this way you don't have to mess with cards. plus, i track everything out as monos, panned to the left and right so i can fit 2 tracks on 1 stereo file. if i'm gonna break em down in sound forge later, i might as well record em into sound forge and do it right then and there. that definitely works though.

yup, I've had this hookup for about 3 months now. Definitely sounds better and crispier. You notice the difference when you first do the switch.

it's fukn brilliant i have one, though if you have the cash, get the traveller, that has 192kHz instead of 96kHz maximum sample rate, it's bus powered (ie no power supply - the power comes from the firewire connection) and it's more compact too.

I have my mpc hooked up to my Mbox via spdif. It sounds sick. It really thumps. I haven't even tried 1/4" yet.

nah only two s/pdif ie left/right via the one cable. you're thinking adat my friend, of which it does have 8, which drop to four if you set the sample rate above 48kHz. of course if you do have a converter box, i guess it's possible to have eight s/pdifs going to the one adat.
