Anyone burned on Ebay

I have a "friend" interested in getting an MPC1000 off ebay.

Any horror stories here or pretty much smooth sailing ?

VST says they'll run a diagnostic for $35. Is that worthwhile ?

usually you wont get ripped off if you buying it within the US. also most of the scams are obvious. people with a random username (as in just random letters and numbers) with zero ratings from germany or something. those are usually unreliable.
also, if you bid on a scam bid, ebay will usually detect the item's fraud before the bidding ends and you wont end up losing your money.
also if you pay thru paypal, ebay/paypal can solve disputes and can help get your money back.

also if you're looking for a mpc1k (with broken cf reader) for only 525$ get at me.

also things like: 10 x 50" Akai plasma screens going for £150 with shipping 'from china' should ring alarm bells.

Do not bid on 24 hour auctions or auctions with the sellers email address (usually a hotmail or yahoo throw away account) listed asking you to contact them first before bidding. Also, if the auction contains pictures that are borrowed from another auction..stay away from it. These are scams and there are plenty of them on eBay everyday.

As long as you use your credit card on eBay through Pay Pal, you are pretty much covered. I stress using your credit card, because they will give you your money back in cases of fraud. Pay Pal doesn't always give you your money back.

If you are strapped for cash..check out American Musical because they offer payment plans on gear.

why would u need diagnostics?

the mpc1000 is a new machine, unless somone jumped on it, why would it break?

if you're going to buy off ebay, always check your sellers transaction counts and feedback. I wouldnt send more than 100 dollars to anyone with less than 100% percent feedback and more than 50 transactions. Also check the past auctions to see what type of money the seller is dealing with. Follow this and you will avoid any nightmare. And remember... If the deal seems to good to be true, its probably a scam.

You still have to be careful with highjacked accounts. That's why you stay away from 24 hour auctions and don't email them directly but use eBay's messaging system. Messages will get to the registered owner of the account.

being from canada kinda sux...most of the dope deals are cool until the shipping, when i bough my KRK RP5's i ended up payin more, then rather going to the local store...ahah, u get dummied and learn i guess.

thats another thing... ALWAYS CHECK THE SHIPPING AND HANDLING! Someone could be selling something for .99 cents and the shipping can be $49.01

i think that's to save paying ebay loadsa cash, because you don't have to pay them a percentage of the postage, although that may well have changed.

That's also illegal if the intent is to advoid eBay fees. If you are buying from a one time seller is one thing. But if this seller regularly does business on eBay and jacks up the shipping cost to advoid paying eBay fees, I would stay far away from them. Many times, shipping may be non-refundable.

read the entire description of the product.

you should be safe from there if you check those things.
