MPC, computer and USB???

Sup everyone?

I had a question about using the USB on the MPC to transfer files between my computer and the MPC... When I load the USB up and access my computer I can transfer files just fine. It works like a champ!

The problem I am having is that once I choose the sounds and kits that I want to use and transfer them over to the MPC and I want to get working on a beat, I actually have to reboot the MPC. Why is that? It seems that the USB function freezes the MPC on that screen. I can still transfer files but I can't get back to the Main screen. Is there something that I am missing? Or is this what we have to deal with?

This makes no sense to me. We should be able to connect to the compouter send files and keep working on a beat if we choose. Not turn off the MPC and then turn it back on and load the beat again... Anyways around this???

If you're running Windows XP, you need to click on the Safely Remove Hardware icon in your systray and then click where it says Safely Remove USB Mass Storage Device. Then, you'll get a popup that tells you "Safe To Remove Hardware".

BTW, this is all in your manual.

PS- You can't continue to work on anything with the MPC until your USB is disconnected. Akai just implemented it where it's possible to keep the USB connected on the 2500, so I'm sure in a later update, they will implement this in the 1000. Just don't expect it anytime soon.

I have tried to "Safely Remove Hardware" and it doesn't seem to do anything. It just stays on the USB screen. I can't get back to the Main Screen...

I have read the manual BTW... I just can't seem to get it off of that USB screen. the only way is to shut down the MPC and restart it.

If you don't get a popup from windows that tells you it's safe to remove your hardware or it tells you that it was unsuccessful, try it again.

Now, after you've got that straightened out, remove the USB cable from the MPC. You can still leave the cable attached to the computer.

You'll still be in that USB screen on your MPC, as you just mentioned. So all you have to do to exit that screen is to hit the MAIN button.

After my files finish transfering I unplug the usb from the computer, hit menu on the mpc, and the plug it back in and start working. will this hurt anything?

Use the method I explained here in this thread and you'll have no problems. It's better to play it safe and use this method, as I've read from the manual.

Disconect the USB cable, hit the Window button and you will be back to the regular MPC screen.
