using the mpc as a midi sequencer

Hi - want to gig with the mpc1000 as the beat module and a korg ms2000 as a source of basslines and synth sounds and want to get the mpc1000 to tell the korg what to play and when to play it on stage.

first of all though i have to tell the mpc what to play, right, so when i press the play button on the mpc the bassline is played back on the korg. can i record myself play the korg alongside my preprogrammed beats on the mpc so it stores the midi data from the korg that way? how do i do that? if it can do that then can it also record other midi data like me twiddling the freq cut off and all that jazz as well.

if anyone can help me then please do. i have a cold and my head is really hurting typing this.

hook your midi ins an outs of your korg to the mpcs midi ins an outs then you have to run the audio L/R plugs out of the korg into the mpcs record in last turn the input thru on so the mpc records the audio too.thats how i set mine up an it works like a charm.

USE THE KORG AS A SOUND MODULE!!!!!

The mpc must be set up as the master and the ms2000 as the slave. The mpc will record the ms2k data and will play it back along with your beats.
mode:midi active track receive channel:all
soft thru: as track
sync out: AB
sync in: off
set up the ms2k midi tracks to separate mpc tracks and play away.
The tweaking of the ms2k should be recorded as midi CC data. I usually record this to a separate track so editing is simpler.

not trying to be an a$$, but the manual can explain it better than all of us. This is a very basic MPC function.

thanks fez and the other guys for your answers. and i dont know what manual you were given but mine has a paltry half page devoted to telling me how to use midi. what fez said has proved the most helpful to use the korg as the midi slave and record the midi data in seperate tracks on the mpc to run alongside my beats. now i need to find out how to do that on different tracks and then put them all onto the same song. so when i perform it will play that shit back to me at the right time.

Fez is right on setting the mpc as the main seq, to play bassline,lead,etc from the mpc,you have to make sure the mpc is setup,as above is shown.
Now controlling the sounds from the mpc,seeing that your midi cables is setup. If you want to play the keyboard along with what you recorded in the mpc, just play it, aslong as your not recording over your seq. In other words your giging with the MS2000 as the midi controler. Here's an example how the MP should be setup.

SQ: 1sequence


Type: Midi Pgm:No:1< this is where you can hit window,and change sounds from the MPC to control the keyboard.Make sure you read the MS2 manual to find out what's the control number (MSB-0 & LSB 2,examples) is ,Program numbers changes the bank sounds.

Midi:1-16. Each track will have it's own instrument.

hope this better explain how to setup your keyboard record tracks and then play live with the sequence you recorded.
