newbie to mpc- layering drums

what's up everybody,
just having a few problems today messing with my mpc. first problem is when i chop up a sample, then try to put drums to it, the sample will cut out. also i don't know how to save the sample i need to layer it with the drums. for example: saving the sample, then bringing it back up to use for one of the pads, then just playing the drums out. i'd appreciate the input i get, i'm a newbie, so this question may sound retarded to some, but i'm new to the mpc. please help. peace

as far as 'bringing the sample up to use for one of the pads', you need to load 'em up in a program. Do you have a manual? Pick a section, put the book in your lap, and work on the mpc. Basic moves to familiarize yourself with the 1k.

sample all drums in mono, except rarely triggered samples

When you chop using the slice function and lets the MPC on its own create a program of the individual slices it ALWAYS sets the program Play mode to MONO (PROGRAM Mode > F3 PARAMS > upper right corner). Switch that to POLY before you start sequence indiviual slices on top of each other.

To more experienced people:
If a newbie get´s cut of sounds, dont just assume it´s mute groups. To use mute groups you have to actually engage them (if you don´t run some preset program), if one is experienced enough to engage mute groups, one is probably experienced enough to disable them.
9 times out of 10 when chopped samples is involved I bet it´s the program play mode that´s defaulted to MONO after creating a new program.
This question has came up 3 times a week for the last two months, and there´s always people giving the mute groups or voice overlap tips. Don´t lead them on a possible sidetrack by just mention mutes and overlap.

I think I know what your talking about and its not mute groups or poly. How much memmory have you got? I had the same problem with less memmory and a lot of samples triggering thru your sequence starts to cut other longer samples out. Buy more RAM.

The amount of RAM won´t affect the polyphony of the MPC 1000.
