MPC 1000 and the keyboard.

Im about to cop a trition keyboard to go with my MPC 1000. Since Im tired of sampling and not having the freedom to create my own music. How does the MIDI work. Do u record your melodies to the pads that you created with the keyboard. Can someone explain the process of using the keyboard with the MPC.

i'm not going to explain everything about midi in this post as it will take a long time. just note that midi does not carry audio. what you would do is if you are only going to use the triton, you have to connect a midi cable from the midi out of the triton to the midi in of the mpc and then connect the midi out of the mpc to the midi in of the triton. and when you want to record something from the triton to the mpc, you have to setup the triton in "multi-mode" (not sure about the correct term on the triton as i don't have a triton) and you have to setup the mpc correctly to receive midi data on each track of the mpc.

I'm bout to buy the extreme 88 on Thursday (payday) so I've researched a lot of the abilities and linking capabilities. What Sparq is saying yo is that when you hook up the midi, all the is transfering is basically numbers. those numbers are recorded on a sequence on the mpc where you will sequence it, and then it gets sent back to the triton and triggers different sounds and notes to play. that is one way of recording the melodies you create on the keyboard.

another way, which isn't the greatest, and would take up more space and time, would be to have the main outputs from the keyboard (audio data) connected to the record inputs of the mpc, that way you can sample actual audio data (wav) on the mpc and lay out your tracks that way using a recorded melody. either way, you are getting the melody you make from the keyboard onto ur song on the mpc.

im so stoked to get mine. i mean, obviously the triton can do way way more than just that, but im psyched for that too.

i think i described it right, right? haha.

and if you are going with the first method (using midi) both pieces of equipment have to be on when you want to play it back. since once the mpc has the data layed down on a track, it will trigger the triton to play the sounds. if you go the second route (audio sampling) once the sample is added to a track on ur mpc, the triton could essentially be off and you can replay back your sampled melody on just the mpc alone.
