MEMORY CARD WON'T LOAD !!

peeps,
I'm in a serious panic.
When I try to load anything from my CF it's not happening.
Wierd characters are showing up, file names corrupted, and it seems to think one of my samples is 900Mb, which it isn't!!! So I reformat the CF and try to put some new samples onto it via USB..not happening...errors

Is my CF f***ed?
Is my MPC f***ed?
Anyone had this before?

Please Help!

Has no-one encountered this?

Things to try...

1. Reformat the card on the MPC. I encountered a similar problem when I reformated my card on the compluter. Let the MPC do the formatting. In fact, reformat it twice for good measure.

2. Don't use any strange characters in filenames. Keep the filenames as short a you can (preferably 8 letters or less), don't use spaces, and lose any charaters that are not letters or an underscore.

3. Do not run disk checking or defragmenting tools on your card. I did this once and all hell broke loose. CF cards do not need to be defragmented. The way that files are written to them is different than the way other disks handle files... they don't get fragmented on a CF card. As for the disk checking or disk repair tools, they are not necessary and can do strange things to a CF card in my experience.

P.S. Is it a KODAK CF card by any chance?

Thanks alot, actually I found it was connecting the MPC to my mac that was causing trouble, I think? I've reformatted twice and bought a card reader which has seemed to be working fine now. Also since then bought a couple of new CF's too.

Whenever I "ejected" the cf/mpc (with the usb plugged in) from my mac the MPC still thinks it's connected but the mac thinks it's ejected. Something a bit wrong there? Anyone else had this problem?

Anyway, mow I've got a card reader aint gonna bother with USB, seems a bit buggy to me.

Same with my Mac, it seems as long as you keep the USB cable connected to your computer the MPC will say it's "connected" even after you have ejected the drive-icon.
But i guess it's save to unplug the USB after ejecting the drive.

i have never had this problem, but i unplug the mpc from the back after i eject it from the desktop. i just keep the cable plugged into the usb port and use it when i need it.

use the safe to remove hardware icon then disconect the cable
