Hello.
I have tried to hook my midi keyboard to the mpc through midi in.
What i would like is to select one sample and playing it with my midi keyboard. Let's say i have got only a bass note and i want to make a melody with it.
is it possible that MPC follows midi instructions from the keyboard and plays the sample according to the notes i send in? i am not talking about multi samples..
Because when i try do it with the 16 levels it is not so comfortable...
any suggestion?
thanks a lot!

it is possible, but you must edit the midi note assignments for your program to be chromatic.

search for the thread about "auto chromatic" in the mpc2500 forum, the same issue was discussed at length there and applies equally to the 1k

no, 16 levels is the only way you can do it using just one sample. the way sleepersriddle is talking about requires a sample per note. sorry.

what the..?

well it doesn't have to be a _different_ sample per note, just the same sample assigned to many pads and tuned differently. ... anway it just gets into the whole autochromatic discussion from that point.

yes there's nothing stopping you from loading the same sample to different pads, but you're still loading several samples, ie. there's more than one sample in the memory. if you use 16 levels then it's just that one sample. does the same thing, but uses less memory. of course loading different samples to different pads is the best option for a realistically emulated instrument, but as you say that's a whole other can of worms.

yea 16 levels works fine , but i wish it can have 32 levels as an option to it , that would be better to play with different tunes.

With due respect sir, I believe you are wrong. :) If I put 'sample1' to program1-pada1, then put 'sample1' to program1-pada2, it doesn't take twice the memory. For instance, in the Trim page there are still the same number of samples to choose from.. .you didn't have to copy and paste the same sample or anything.

If you are sure otherwise or have proof please let me know but that would be news to me and very weird imho.

cheers

edit: and i agree with you about multisamples for realism :).

but you cant use 16 levels with a midi keyboard... the easiest way is to use chainer to export your sample as cromatic sample program then put in bluebox and make your huge cromatic program and play it from midi keyboard... we got all this memory so why not use it???? only problem is you got to come up with witty jokes while each song is loading all these freakin samples for every song live but....... the benefits include the ability to improvise with up to 64 notes for each program in each song live!!!!!! wicket if your an actual musician... not just a hip hop fan?? the4n it will work to throw down genres and implicate connectivity between vivaldi and you.. cha!!!

sleeper is correct, you can assign the same sample to one pad or all of the pads and it uses the same amount of memory.

ok yes my bad. i just assumed that the mpc took it as a new sample each time.

kja wrote:but thats useing the pitch shift...

do you mean the pitch shift as in the tuning of the sample in the program window, or the actual effect that has to be processed like a time stretch? if the latter, then i'm afraid not, pad-ophiliac is correct.

all i'm saying is you have to use the "not so good" pitch shift inside the program window for 64 semitones from one sample if u dont want to use the inteligent pitch shift which would mean you need to make more copies of the sample.

yeah the 'not so good' pitch shift is actually just speeding up and slowing down the sample. which is what the 16 levels function does, but cannot be played from an external keyboard like tuning the sample can be. the best method is what you suggested first: loading a sample for each pad that has been pitch shifted/ sampled correctly (ie. a sample per note).
