hello

im thing of getting an mpc100 but cant afford a higher spec akai, and i want something smaller for live use but im worried about the ram size.

does anyone find the 128mb ram limiting on this box, if your playing longer than drum hit samples?

where its only 32 polyphony could you play 32 bar leangth samples at the same time without it crashing?

and if you where to play a drumroll(32nd notes)on the pads of two or more large samples (5/10 seconds), while some other stuff is looping underneath would this crash it.

sorry if this sounds really dumb, thank for the help. this box looks really good and i can see it working well live as long as the ram doesn't crash on me.

i did read that sticky, but i found it didn't answer my queastion...like the mpc seams find for drums at 128 (which i learnt from the sticky and reviews) but im not going to use this boxs for drum hits so...

well in that case

I never have had an issue with long samples

even up to several minutes in length

no crashes

you should be set with the 1k

yea 128 is hella lot , i never use it all i prolly use close to 1/4 of it and have long samples to it .

ill try one out in the shop, using long samples continouslly playing back at 32notes on one shot mode and see what happens, if it doesn't crash ill buy it.

I just got my replacement MPC about 2 weeks ago and have yet to re-install my 128RAM Upgrade and 40GB Hard Drive and I have run into no problems with sample time. I really just started using this MPC over the weekend and I am loving it!

With 128 meg ram upgrade i get just over 12 min of recording time. So i would guess that would be 24 min mono. Either way, if you can't deal with 128 megs, you should look to a laptop. 128 is actually way to much for me. Not just the fact i don't use more than a fraction of it, but the fact it just makes me lazy. I just load up everything. With 6 meg, i could get by, just a little bit limiting. But i'd have to plan alot better. Anyway, i don't see how you would have a problem with it.

i tryed one out in the shop today with 16mb and it seamed fine, so i think ill be getting one soon. app most of the blue ones have sold out in the uk so ive gotta wait for a new black one, which is more expensive for some unknow reason.

First issue was that it was completely wobbly, 2nd issue was that sometimes it would see the internal hard drive, other times it would not. There were issues with when loading up samples that samples would not load and a couple of the lights on the unit would stay in a buzzing state even when not in use.

I sent that unit back to Akai and they set it up to where I could pick up a brand new unit from VST. Akai said the unit was not worth fixing. So I went out to VST and picked up a new one and it has been smooth sailing ever since.

As far as people trashing FL I just have to say I can make just as good tracks on the MPC or Fruityloops. 9th Wonder is a good example of the power of FL Studio in the right hands. The problem with FL is that the cost is cheap which puts it into the hands of less qualified or talented individuals. Either way I purchased my MPC1000 because I wanted to get back to the essence of making beats. I used to rock the MPC2000 (non XL model) with the S900 back in the day so it has been pretty easy to adapt to the MPC1000. The MPC sequencer is tight bunz!

i just crashed (not full crash but you could hear pops and features didn't work instantlly) my 2.2gb pc with guru an mpc emulator program, i'm worried again now. i did it by triggering two samples at 32notes intervals that lasted about 20 seconds each for a bar or so (continus sound played for 40 seconds or so)....i know the mpc100 only has 32 note polyphony but...
