Hi

after following antonyms PAD replacement i Got to say - its way more responsive and worth the time invested.

the pad design on the bottom of every pad inside the mpc 1000 has a curved convex surface...

example :

-----\_____/-------

does any body know what the 2000/3000/60 have at the bottome side of the pad ? is it flat ? or curved aswell ?

maybe Im asking in the wrong area of the forum but any help on this topic is appreciated.

the 2000/xl/4k/3k/mpd pads have a domed underside just like the 1k, only their dome is circular, as opposed to the 1k's oval shaped domes.

plus they don't have piezo sensors - their sensors are all arranged on a sheet. good design - i saw it on the inside of my mpd. it's nice, sturdy and tough.

nor does the 1k. the graphite conducts electricity slightly, and the harder you hit the pad, the more the rubber dome squashes. this presents more surface area of the graphite to contact with the copper tracks beneath it, hence: less resistance.

the other pad design, which is present in the mpd/2000/xl/etc, works the same way, only the graphite is painted (or possibly printed) onto a membrane, which gives it durability in the long run.

the graphite conducts electricity slightly, and the harder you hit the pad, the more the rubber dome squashes. this presents more surface area of the graphite to contact with the copper tracks beneath it, hence: less resistance.


i thought that was what a piezo sensor was - oops. looks like i got to wikipedia piezo sensor and find out what they really are.

a piezo-electric crystal is a material that, when compressed, has a voltage across it. it's used in cigarette lighters!

in the research i've done into my idea of building better mpc pads, i've found that good piezo sensors are cheap and durable. i'm going to be building them into the mpc 1000 as well as my midi drumglove idea this summer. now that i know they're different from the mpc1000 sensors, even better...

I liek how with the previous MPCs the 16 pads are all on one big dirty pad, made em hella sturdy. The 1k are all individual pads.

With the 1k ive already noticed some problem with sensitivity, and velocity issues associated with the glue coming undone due to the heat prodced by the machine.

Thats kinda scares me. I know antonym had a way to fix it, but wouldnt AKIA be better off to consuct the pads liek they did before.

good luck with that! the mpc pads work by having a voltage applied to one wire, and then according to how hard you hit them, letting through corresponding amounts of electricity to the other wire, kinda like a variable resistor. piezo sensors work by actually creating a voltage across themselves, which varies according to the pressure applied. you'd have to build some kind of voltage to resistance circuit for each pad for that to work. like i said initially, good luck with that. :D (not doubting it's possible, or even that you can do it, just saying the resultant mess may well exceed the boundaries of the 'battered' style your mpc already exhibits, and perhaps wander instead into 'computer junkyard' territory :lol: )
