how do you speed up the tempo on a sample?

Ok I got a dope sample, but it is way to slow. Whenever I change the tempo in the main menu, it only increases the speed of the bars and no the sample. Any suggestions.

What, what were you going to say? I've been fumbling through the manual and I cant find anything on it. I know that there are videos out, but I can't view them because I have a mac.

Ok, i'm not actually a mean guy, hate being a bastard was just waiting for the customary response to every single question posted on these boards.
You gotta have OSv2.10 and open the trim page goto edit then timestretch. Or you can use the patch phrase feature to chop it into slices, which are played back at different tempos while retaining the individual hits (most useful for drum loops). Thats should get you on the right track.

yup changing the master tempo doesn't change the tempo of the various samples. some might find it funny that you thought it would... but whatever, you gotta learn somehow. heck itd be nice if it did (ableton live would do that, for example.)

on the mpc the options for changing the tempo of a sample are 1. adjust tuning (but that changes pitch also, just like a turntable would) or 2. use the timestretch, or 3. slice it up (more of an option for drums than for other things)

Alot of people are quick to say read the manual on these forums, but I will say that the manual isnt exactly the best. The timestretch on the mpc 1000 sux, I don't care how anyone tries to justify it. The part about timestretching in the manual sux as well. So, what is wrong with the guy asking tips or tricks? My advice would be to get good at chopping. The patchphrase feature in slice mode works very good as well, as long as you make sure the slices fall right on beat. Tuning it up and down is a good option, or, dare i say it, throw it in a software program and stretch there, then bring it back to the mpc.... But that seems like voodoo around these parts, lol. Guys, ease up on the read the manual stuff. It applies sometimes, but not to every answer. It seems like there are a ton of questions/topics where right after the question the first reply is RTFM. Help people once in awhile, its a good feeling
