Painting MPC1000 side panels?

I cracked my red side pieces on my MPC1000 so I had to order new ones from Akai... unfortunately, they did not have the black ones yet. However, they were cheap enough ($15 a pair) that I bought two...one to keep as stock and one for painting? For those of you that have painted your side panels... what paint seems to work the best and what type should I avoid?

Auto paint is the best to use, Also on Plastic you might want to just sand very lightly just to ruff up the plastic , so the paint can stick well, adding clear coat to seal the paint in good.

Auto paint... like spray paint from an auto parts store? or the stuff they use to paint cars... with all that fancy equipment? I was only going to buy some spray paint... will that not work?

dont use something with a glossy finish. it'll look tacky. if it was me i'd go for a belton molotow or montana gold spray paint.

they're some of the thickest and finest paints money can buy, they'll stick to anything too.

Good point... I probably would have if you didn't remind me.

The best paint i have every used is from an auto body supply store. You pick your color and they actually mix it for you and put in an areosol can. Unlike the pre-packaged touch up paint you can buy, it attually is sutible for using on a car. The duplicolor touch up paint you can buy at most autoparts stores is good as well. Depends on the color you want though. If you want, say, flat black, most paints will do fine. It's the glossy colors that you really want good paint for.

actually it doesn't look too tacky. guess it depends how you finish it up. no polishing and it looks good. belton/montana would be my choice of paint.

a couple of layers of primer, wetsand it smooth, a couple of black layers, sand it smooth (the orange peel look), clear coat.

For me the wood is a touch of soul. We spend a lot of time upon this machine....i just want to make it inspire me

seems more of a retro thing, like the older keyboards/drummachines.
