Great now the Hard Drive workaround doesn't even work!!

A while back I was having the "new folder bug", you know, where the MPC crashes completely while trying to create a new folder. Well after recovering from that and reformatting I've mended my ways and haven't used the MPC to create a new folder since, I strictly use Windows Explorer for all my file management needs.

In the root of the MPC Hard Drive I have folders for works in progress and five folders labeled 1-5 for saving new stuff.

To get to the point: A couple of days ago I created a new beat etc. and saved entire memory to one of my empty folders (folder 1) I received no error, as far as I could tell the save was just fine.

Just now I went to back-up the contents of my 1 folder only to have Windows explorer tell me that the folder and its contents are corrupt!!!! This stinks, there aren't even any files in the directory!!! My work is just gone!

Be on the lookout because even using Windows explorer won't stop you from loosing data. This is ridiculous the MPC should be able to save and load properly, there really is no excuse.

What brand of Harddive do you have in your MPC?

I have a Fujitsu, 60GB 4200 RPM.

i know what it is, stop trying to copy ALL of em at the same time..Copy one by one until you get that error...Then look at the folder carfully and your see files with gibberish and probably a folder size bigger than the size of your harddrive(mine was 1.2 TB, terabytes.)

So copy all your folders one by one untill you finish and forget that corrpted folder. Then format it with the UTILI in the MPC and then dump all your beats back in..THERE YOU GO!!!!!

I don't know about Solah, but Joey and foflex are both running with harddrives that haven't been tested and approved by akai yet. I don't know if that has anything to do with the bugs you get, Might have. So I guess you could say that you don't just FEEL like a beta tester, you actually ARE one.

Myself, I have a Hitachi 60 GB something something, installed (Not approved either) And i'm getting no erros or corrupted files. Not for now at least.

Oh, I get the "DIRECTORY ERROR" Everytime I overwrite the existing content of a folder (When saving), But that doesn't have any affect at all. I checked it.

Hopefully the next OS (If that is to be) will have these problems solved.

So when you say the directory error has no effect, do you mean that when you are getting the error you are simply re-saving and it works the second time? I don't have a hard drive installed, but with my CF card, every time I would get the directory error and then just re-save it was actually corrupting the data structure of my CF card. It wasn't noticeable at first. I would just re-save and everything was cool. It would load up just fine next time and all. But then I started noticing that my PC was reporting that the card was full, when it actually was not. And then folders started to eventually "disappear" and the re-appear. Anyway, long story short, what seemed like a harmless error at first was actually causing a lotl of data corruption. I'm curious if this might be the same with the hard drive since I don't have a hard drive yet to test it.

Since I started using the "refresh" saving technique, I have completely eliminated the directory error.

I have had the Directory error when saving to my HD too 40gb Toshiba etc.- I always just resave it again - and it always works fine - Saves everything as you would expect.

No other errors or corruptions noticed at all

I have a recommended SEAGATE HDD, and I cannot save over (overwrite) the data that is on the HDD, I can do this always on the CF Card but not the HDD, its seriously becoming to be a big problem, because I loose beats cause of this.

This is not acceptable!!

that my friend i have found to work on occasion...what i have to do is delete what it is i want to overwrite then re save it.

Solah, are you implying that there will be corruption no matter what? Will I continue to loose the odd project? Could you please elaborate if I've got you wrong?
