my 1000 froze while saving a beat

So....
My 1000 FROZE completely on me while I was saving a beat...
It has never froze on me before, and considering that I only had one option (as far as I know) to restart, I turned it off...I knew I'd lose whatever I had been working on before that save, however.............
everything fom that project was LOST!! all the seqeunces, programs, basically, names were there, but NO SAMPLES. the programs were completely empty. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me there's a way to retrieve that data, considering I've spent months on this one tune as a bside for the new single.

man i had the same problem, wat the **** is up with these shitty mpc `s man. unreliable as ****. althought i think it may have something to do with your CF card ( capacity and how much shit u got on it) and also wat ram u werkin with? 16mb still? )

cos my shit **** up but i was lucky i backed up all my joints onto my laptop.

I always back up all my joints when they're done...and this shit was DONE! this was literally the last save before I finished this shit, all I had left to do was lay out the song...beats come and go, but this truly was a unique project, something I could never re-create...I'm beyond devastated. It is my own fault that I'm still on the 16mb internal...there is plenty of room on the cf card tho. i gotta handle that internal memory asap.

speaking of cf cards,,,I still feel like the samples from that project are still on there, it wouldn't make sense that they would've been erased off of it, they should still be there. I'm gonna try and rent a 1000 from the store and stick my card in it to see if it maybe loads on a fresh unit...

time goes on.....I'm still ready to murder tho.

well, the files are still there. although your MPC may not be able to see them. trying a different machine isn't a bad idea, but i doubt it will show on those either.


There are ways to retrieve your data, but they are VERY expensive. It all depends on how important it was.

Did you try to connect the USB to a computer and/or try the CF card in a computer reader? I bet a computer could see the files.

I gave up on the CF's. Lost several beats.
They simply are tooooo unreliable.
Since I put a Hard Drive in it I've had no probs.
Get a HD if you know what's good for you.

This crashing while saving issue is MAJOR problem for me, I cross my fingers and say a prayer everytime I save somthing because it crashes about half the time.

Akai should get on this, it's just ridiculous.

I have since recovered all lost material.....

I was convinced that the samples were still on the CF and that they weren't deleted. Once I had a little more time, I was able to load each sample individually and re-create the song. Obviously I couldn't remember which samples were on which pad, but for the most part I ninja'd my way through it and now all is well...

I do think my biggest problem is using the 16mb internal still, what the **** am I thinking?? Nonetheless, I defenitely can't be wondering whether or not a beat's gonna save or not, that's just ludacris...

Here's the solution (again) until they fix the bug... man, I'm glad I saved this as a text file... I've saved myself a ton of typing.


The method I have for avoiding the saving crashes and the new folder bug involves "refreshing" the directory tree before creating the new folder. I was getting the new folder bug quite frequently, but since I started this "refresh technique, I have not gotten a single error. Here's what I do:

1. In the SAVE directory tree, I move the cursor to the folder I want to save to and I hit RENAME, then in the RENAME dialog I hit COPY. This step is only so that I don't have to re-enter the individual letters when I get to step 5.

2. Close the RENAME dialog then delete the folder.

3. Close the directory tree. (At this point, if you go back into the directory tree, you will see that, in fact, the folder you just deleted has magically re-appeared as if it had never been deleted. Going back into the tree is not actually a step I take in the saving process, it is simply something strange I noticed when I was originally troubleshooting it.)

4. Here's where the "refresh" comes in... So after closing the directory tree (step 3), you should be back in the main SAVE dialog. Move the cursor up to the field at the top where you select where you want to save (i.e. MEMORY CARD or INTERNAL MEMORY or HARD DISK if you have one). I then change the option to INTERNAL MEMORY, and then I change it back to MEMORY CARD. That's the "refresh". Now the directory tree correctly reports that the folder was, in fact, deleted.

5. I then hit NEW to make a new folder, then in the NEW FOLDER dialog I hit PASTE (since i copied the name of the folder in step 1).

6. Then I SAVE ENTIRE MEMORY to the folder I just re-created.


I'm assuming this method would work for saving to the hard drive too, but I haven't been able to test that since I don't have a hard drive installed.

As far as I can tell, it is the combination of not overwriting, and "refreshing" that has eliminated the error for me. since I have been saving like this I have had ZERO errors. Give it a try and let me know if it works for you.

I would recommend a backup and reformat if you have been having the error a lot because you probably have some corruption already on the disk which could cause additional headaches later.

I dont think your idea can help me out much. Im having a huge problem with my sandisk CF card. It was werking fine for a good few months then all of a sudden it slows down the mpc and freezes it up entirely. My laptop doesnt even recognize that ther is a CF card inserted in the mpc and i even bought a CF card reaer hoping to extract files from it and start from scratch but even that didnt recognize the CF card. Is the card just **** or whats is going on??? Akai needs to fix this bull shit up man i didnt pay $1000 AUD to have my work **** up like this.

Whats the go with the hard drive that you guys install? how is it done and wats the cost??
