Playing sample well pads down

Hey

I just got a new mpc 1000 and im trying to do an effect where the sample i have assigned to a pad only plays well i hold the pad adn when i let go stop. Ive seen people do this in videos online but cant seem to figure it out. Sorry if this is a newb question.
