Creating programs with mpcpad187, can't load on 1000?

So Ive had my 1000 for a few months and been busy samplin and choppin daily and over time ive gotten a nice collection of breaks/hits/drumkits/etc from the net.

When I try to create programs of these hits with Pad187(I load the hits on my laptop from my 1000's HD via usb and make the programs there...), they do not load on my mpc. It says the samples arent found.

The samples are each in their own folder on the mpc and when i check the program before saving it to the hd it seems all gravy. but no luck.

I can't think of what it could be- I asked a friend of mine with a 2000classic what he though and he had no clue.

I know there's something I'm missing (other than 4 gigs of samples that i could be using)

make sure your samples are 16 bit, 44.1kHz, WAV files.

they all are

make shure you save the samples in the same place as the program.
the mpc is not able to find samples by path -> so if you created a program using samples from different folders they won´t be found later.

this is one thing i like to see changed, because this way some of my often used drum samples are like ten times on my hdd and cf in different folders. please akai introduce path variables for samples so the programs can use any sample from any folder. thank you!

so are you basically saying i need to take all my drums and samples out of their folders before i even make a program on pad187?


how do i/how do you keep all your samples organized?
my mp's hard drive is already a mess

yes that is the way: you can organize your samples in folders and subfolders like - root/drums/kicks, root/drums/snares, root/hits/brass, root/samples/newsamples, etc. - but if you use these samples to create a program you have to save all the used samples and the prg in one place.
so if you use some of your samples more than one time you´ll have them more than one time on your hdd.

edit: you can also use a program called bluebox, but i don´t know if it works on a mac, or do you have a pc?

I use a mac so its pad187 for me

so what do ou recommend- just take all my samples out of their folders and create programs?

i guess i can then organize all my programs by their type- drums, bass, strings whatever...

im just lookin for a way to get to all my samples and keep them organized...

you can go two ways: for one, keep your samples organized in a sample related way e.g. a folder for kicks, a folder for snares, etc. so you can find them easy if you want a quick addition while working on a beat.
then, if you create programs either with pad187 or on the mpc, save them in a different place maybe root/programs/drumsforbeat1, root/programs/drumsforbeat2, etc. and save the used samples to the same place. you can have more than one program in one folder even if they use the same samples.
usually i make progams on my mpc and if i use them for a beat i save the entire memory to a new folder so a project file is created and all the samples i used for this project are saved aswell (just make shure to delete unused programs and purge before saving, so no crap gets in the project folder). this way i have some samples often on my hdd, but i´m shure that all the files are there if i take the project folder to another studio. my hdd is 80gigs so i won´t run out of space that fast.
as i stated in an earlier post i really like to see akai make the mpc find samples by path so if i create a programm it doesn´t matter where the samples reside.

so it sounds like if i put the program in the folder with the samples used to make that program then it should work- why dont i just do this in the first place? (as opposed to getting rid of all the folders only to make programs and then create more folders...)
still a little confused i guess

so right now i guess i should get rid of the folders i have now make programs for all of them and make new folders for the samples <- this seems like i would have the same problem of not being able to access the samples because theyre in a different folder than the program

Hello,

First thing to do is make sure your samples are the correct format. Then...

1 - Open the .pgm file with the app
2 - Check to see if the samples are loaded correctly
3 - Choose "Export" from the File menu
4 - Export the program to the CompactFlash card

Done.

ohhh maybe thats what ive been doing

instead of exporting the pgm ive been saving it and then copying into my hard drive

the link to the help site was very good. i don´t use pad187 so i didn´t think of the export function. use this and you are all good, but remember if you move a program afterwards within your mpc you need to copy the samples to the new location aswell.
