Hi
I cant seem to get my head around the time correction on my 1000. Whenever i play a beat it seems to throw hits around in a strange way. Also i am given the option of TCing beats to 1/16 triplets or 1/16 with 50 to 75% swing but no option for just 1/16 TC. Whats up with this?

yeah you don't get time correction yet.

1/16 at 0% is quantised 16th notes.
here's what i suggest doing. start up a new seq at 170 bpm (hip hop's 85 in double res) and record a bunch of 8th note hi hats. then turn the swing percentage slowly up and apply it each time you do. hear the difference? good! now go apply it to a beat!

Nym meant 50% is 16th notes. 50 is no swing, 75 is max swing.

And let it stay that way, young man!

So when i want to quantise to 16th notes, I can leave the 50% on? Because to my ears, that still sounds off, it’s not hard quantised to 16th’s.
The manual says I could go down to 0% swing, but the minimum I can enter is 50%. I don’t get the logic of it.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but I just got my MPC1000, and it puzzles me a litte. For the rest, it’s an awesome machine!

50% is 0 swing

honestly
i have no idea why it starts at 50 and goes to 75. i have a hard time knowing the correllation between the percentage and the actual ticks that result

but i still use it to get what i want
go figure!

its because %50 is the really 0 swing.

but beyond that you may still have troubles getting a great smooth loop due to the 1000's timing problems.

I sooo want a 2000XL now.

but this is bogus

yeah well maybe you have the goldenchild of mpc 1000's but not everyone does...or else why the need for a OS that is attempting to correct "timing issues"???

Its not fiction, I knew the second I got my 1000 2 years ago that there was something not right. And Akai confirmed that.

do you think it's a problem with different "strains" of mpc1000s?
i'm a pretty firm believe (most of the time) that compter errors are more commonly just issues where the human isn't feeding it information in the way it wants to be fed...i mean we have kids come in here complaining about the timing like "Wtf bro" and it turns out they had TC on and blamed the hilarious results on "poor mpc1000 timing."

granted, there have been other issues in terms of timing that are less easily answered. but not many.

i mean
for different mpc1000s to have different timing means either of 2 things - hardware malfunction (unlikely, cuz such issues would effect far more than timing) or OS issues, which is also unlikely because it would seem that since we all installed the same OS.

but at the same time it's truly possible. just seems unlikely. regardless, it seems to be the case with all of akai's new samplers.

I come from a background of using battery in cubase with a mpd as a trigger. All i know is when i tap out a beat at 1/16 i get the result Im after. I do the exact same on the 1000 and get dodgy results.Im going to bring it round to a friends house tomorow that has run a 2000 for years. See if it is a timing issue. So your saying the updated OS will fix this? do i grab that off akaipro's site?

1. go to TC : put it on 1/8 50 % swing
2. hit play and rec and press an hi hat while holding down the note repeat button
3. now repeat the same process but now with TC put on 1/8 with 60 % swing
4. acknowledge the difference.
5. you can also try and repeat process with TC 1/16 with 60 % with another hihat and holding down the pad and the note repeat.. now you should be able to get a shuffle effect..

if you used to work with cubase and just got it standard on a harsh 1/16 quantize just apply a TC with 1/16 with 50 % swing..

easier then this it aint gonna get, and it has nothing to do with your OS..

it's probably an RTFM issue
