what timestretching or chopping can do

i was reading in scratch in the j dilla artcile and quest was saying something like there was this sample that went off beat on the 3rd bar and he could never mess with it becasuse of that but dilla showed him there was something in the mpc that fixed this ( he was makin the point how well dilla knew the machine) but any way i have a similar problem. I got a sample the first 2 bars are fine but it goes off in the 3rd, is there something in the mpc 1000 that will fix this besides just chopping

why other than chopping?

yoou're gonna have to at least slice off the bit that doesn't fit so you can timestretch just that.

The mpc doesnt magically fix anything. Whatevewr j dilla showed him was probably just a basic editing technique. Seems theres a lot of guys making music with the mpc that probably never get beyond the surface functions.

I had this problem with a sample the other day, and as the others have said, chopping in the right places so that you can sequence the notes with the timing you want is the key here. Once you have the timing fixed, a little timestretching to fill any gaps and you're there.

it takes a while to get your loop going but it's worth it
it's like using ableton's warper inside the 1k

Usually chop my samples up into 4 sections [1 per bar] and have them assigned to different pads with the "NOTE ON" function set in play mode so I can play it out as long as I want.
