sessions of frequent use - all day. never limit yourself when you're on a roll.

every time you stop working on it, save and turn it off. you never know when a storm might roll through. just a good practice.

24 h? is there any limit 'cause my harddrive is getting really hot after 8h of work.

iv'e keept mine running for two months nonstop. i don't use a harddrive with it though.

i just wanted it to be hands on when i needed it.
hate it when i just turn it off and get an idea and have to turn it on again just to add a detail before i forget it.

the life of electronics with non moving parts is connected to temprature and powersurges rather than constant use.
so i've heard but i'm no professor on the subject and i've never seen any charts or diagrams that proves anything about it.

this is all very true.. where i work we have one computer that has been running since 1978, it's only been turned off during power failures. the LCD readout should be the only thing that fails, if anything.... except of course if there are heat issues with other components.

I keep mine running 24/7 also, once i made beat for 4 days straight.... No joke..I was so depressed to the point where i had nothing to keep my mind off things so i listened to records and made beats for also 5 days, no sleep, i hallucinated, then i got what do you call it when your all thin??? Then i passed out and got rushed to the hospital...It was crazy....But i leave mine on all day, i dont mind....Plus i got other MPC's to fall back on if this one fails.

the part about powersurges suggest that the mpc should live longer when turned on at constant
and not switched on/off 5 or 6 times a day.
it would be intressting to see some research on this

all electronic items last longer when they are left on for longer periods. proviing they don't have problems expelling the heat they produce. the reason for this is if you're turning it off and on about 5 times a day, the continual expansion/contraction the circuits go through when warmed up/cooled down will shorten their mechanical life considerably. if you don't believe me, take a paper clip, bend it once, then leave it alone, and see how long it lasts. next take another paper clip, and bend it backwards and forwards 25 times - it weakens and probably breaks in half. of course you might say 'the circuits are bent backwards and forwards' but if you heat a substance, you will expand it size wise. to do this the molecule have to move, which is the same as if you are bending it. granted there is a large time difference between the length of time it takes to break a paper clip and a cpu to fail due to mechanical fatigue, but you will shorten the life of any electronic device that produces any heat by turning it on and off frequntly.

there have been issues of 1ks failing after being left on for a long period of time, but imho i think it could be due to the fact that the mpc was in an exceptionally hot room, or was covered.

as with everything, turn it of when you finish usng it, waste like this is really adding to globe warming...but then if your one of these cunts who drives around in a 4x4 i doubt you care.

i can see your point but i think atleast one of the earthnations will nuke both me and my MPC out of orbit anyhow.
