MAJOR Saving Problem

When I try saving something to my hard drive my MPC locks up. None of the buttons work or anything.

I can load up things fine.

Has this happened to anyone. If so, how did you fix it? This happened right after I got an error message that I think was called 'system error'.

Please help.

BTW, I back all of my files on my cp, formatted my HD, and put the files back on the HD.

After a few created folders and saved PGM's the damn "System Error" happened again.

So I decided to try and save a program in every folder to see what would happen, but everything worked well.

All that was left to try was create a new folder and save it in it. This caused my MP to freeze up. I'm getting pissed.

Your 1k is still freezing up with beta 17????

I havent had much time to test out this version yet, though I'm sure those bugs were corrected in previous betas.

I need to read up on the "beta 17 bug list" thread again too.

Anyway, JJ is running circles around Wakai, and he'll get things sorted out before they ever do.

Wakai seem to care more about the bug fixes for the 2500 than the 1000. They can't even get that right either!

I'll bet anything that we don't see any "official" bug fix versions from Wakai before the end of the year. So my money is on JJ.

I just hope he aint working on the low for Akai, just so they can get more money out of us. If that ends up being true, the $hit will hit the fan!

knock on wood, but my beta17 has been working just great on my BK.
no major freezes or anything. once in a bluemoon the audio output gets muted after connecting USB but a simple restart and problem is corrected.

Well, I never updated to the 3.0 yet. I'm still on 2.10.

I should add this as well. For some reason my PC has a very hard time of even recognizing my MPC hard drive. But when I do eventually get it to work a "blue screen of death" shows of saying it was caused by something called FastFat.sys. I am so FRUSTRATED right now. I don't know if I should call my PC company or Akai. Or should I update to 3.0 for sure instead?

What you're experiencing on version 2.10 is a known bug that's been pissing off alot of people. Since Wakai cant fix a few simple bugs such as that and the Amp Envelope bug, most of us have more faith in JJ's 3.0 betas, which fix these bugs (and add some really dope features found on the 2500). The betas arent perfect, but they're getting closer with each version. In my opinion, you're better off using OS 3.0 beta 17 until Wakai get their heads outta their asses.

As for your PC, which version of Windows are you running? Also, are you using an external USB hub, or are you connected directly to the PC. Give me more details, so I can help you further.

BTW, with OS 3.0, you can leave the USB cable connected all the time without any interruptions in the 1k. I highly recommend JJ's version 3.0 and Windows XP.

I am running XP. Connecting straight to the PC. Any onther usb cables I plug in to the ports read except for this.

So this is a 2.10 bug, or I'm curious, can my Hard Drive have a virus?

Is there any other way to back my files up because my cp will not read my hd?

Hmmm... that's strange!

I'm not sure if you've tried this, but make sure that the USB cable is connected to the PC before connecting to the 1k. This usually doesnt matter on other USB devices, but for the MPC it makes a difference. You may or may not know that, but I gotta make sure anyway.

I've connected my MPC in this order since version 1.07 and I've never had a problem with Windows XP.

With OS 3.0, I keep the USB cable connected at all times. When I power up the 1k, I'll hear that sound that Windows XP makes when it recognises a USB device. But it won't actually see the drive until I press MODE, PAD 2 (LOAD), F4 (USB), and finally F6 (MOUNT). After a few seconds, the 1k's hard drive contents will pop up in a window and I can fully access it.

The MOUNT function is new to 3.0. Earlier 1k OS's didnt have that option, since you had to insert the USB cable into the unit, and then when finished transferring files, you'd have to click on the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in Windows sys-tray (on the taskbar).

As far as viruses are concerned, I wouldnt doubt that a virus can be transferred from your computer's hard drive to your 1k's hard drive... but in 8 years of fuking around with PC's, I've never seen a virus attatched to an audio file. I'm not sure if audio files can become infected, since it's never happened to me. However, it can't hurt to do a virus scan on your PC just to make sure you're clean.

Anyway, check all this out, so at least we can sort through the process of elimination. Also, make sure your antivirus definitions are up to date. If you dont have an antivirus software, you can download AVG Free (yup, it's free, updates automatically, and does just as good of a job as Norton or McAffee, which I'll never waste my money on again).

You can still back up your files on a CF card, then transfer them to your PC with an external USB multicard reader. But it would be better to have your PC work with the 1k's hard drive. I can't see you having to spend more money on an external CF reader for the PC when you already went and bought an HDM10 and a hard drive.

Ok so I have confirmed this. I put in my 32 MB cf card and plug in my Usb and my CP noticed it almost instantly. Definitely telling me it is the HD. But What my Hd act this, I believe was the MPC's "System error". So should this be considered crappy MP or HD?

Oh well, I don't have any viruses on my cp. I have Norton. Not like that fixes everything though.

Dang I was a little hesitant to install the 3.0 bc it being 3rd party and all but if it will really eliminate this disastorous bug then I may have to. I know a lot of people support it.

I was about to ask you if you tried connecting using the 1k's CF reader, but now that I see you done that with no problem, it's definitely a hard drive problem. It may not be a defective hard drive at all. Maybe just a loose connection. Check and see if the hard drive is seated correctly in the HDM10, and also make sure the HDM10 is seated properly in the 1k. Let's hope that's all it is. BTW, what's the brand and model of your hard drive?

Got another question...

Is there anything on this hard drive that you were ever able to save beforehand? If not, be sure to format it in the mpc after you've checked the connections, just incase you're still stuck.

Also, the Wakai OS 2.10 has a tendency to sh!t all over alot of people's hard drives, leaving corrupt data that can't be accessed or deleted. I've had this problem as well as many people here. I havent run into this problem at all using OS 3.0.

Oh yea man, I have been using this hd since around May and haven't had any problems saving things except for the common "File Errors", "System Errors", and "Wrong File" messages I have been getting recently. Next thing I know I get the FastFat.Sys error (blue screen of death) on my cp when I hooked it up.

Anyway, my HD is a Toshiba 80GB MK8032GAX.

Since my cp wont recognize my HD though, I saved all the stuff I created recently on my cf card. So now, I will Reformat my HD, check and see if my cp can then read it consistently, and update to the new 3.0.

Ok, I formatted my HD and it will read it. However, when I unplug and plug it back it in my cp only recognizes the HD as a "Removable Disk F:" and when I try to do anything to it all it says is "Please insert a disk into F:".

Basically, what I have found out is the only time my CP will read my HD is immediately after I format it on my MPC.

Anything based on that?

It's safe to keep the USB cable connected at all times, now with OS 3.0. Also remember to use F6 (MOUNT), when you're in the LOAD, USB page. Otherwise you'll continue to have the same problem. Let me know if that helps.

My 60gb hard drive has also given me problems twice since installing it earlier this year. When I was using system 2.1, after a couple months I would get errors when saving to the hard drive that didn't behave like the folder error in 2.1. After a reformat this worked fine again.

Now I am having a problem in beta17 and build 3.00 where my machine freezes when creating a new folder in my hard drive (cf drive is fine). After posting this in the bug thread, other people using these builds said that this worked fine on their machines. Since it must be my hd again, I am going to have to back up and reformat the drive again and hopefully it stays good this time.

I don't remember exactly who the manuf. of my drive is.
