The Trim page has been zooming even before OS 3.
I personally don´t find the zooming really that helpful on the MPC 1000, I get the impression that it´s not really showing what´s going on. On a whole I find the looping of samples within the MPC 1000 a bit of a hassle, in my eyes it´s one of it´s biggest weknesses.
In a tight audio editing software I can pretty much edit all by eyes to avoid clicking at the loop points, on my trusted old Akai S2000 there was no graphical representation whatsoever so I had to rely entirely on ears on that one.
I work a lot with ambient textures, drones and pad-like sounds made by sustained samples so I have a lot of experience messing with things to make them smooth and seemless / clickless. When I got my 1000 last year the first thing I noticed was the difficulty to create clean loop points, the reults were mostly unsatisfying whether I relied on graphical editing or my ears, or any possible combinations of the two.
My experience is that the loop points on the MPC 1000 mostly isn´t hitting on the same samples on each pass, like the start- and end point differ a few samples between the passes.
Sort of hard to explain, but you know how the click generated by a bad loop point changes in character the closer it gets to a proper loop point? From a distinct click with a good amount of "thump" it reduces it´s lo freq content and amplitude as start- and end points closes in on each other, just before the click disappears it´s very subtle and void of most low and mid freqs.
When you place start- and end points in a sample on the MPC 1000 and let the sample loop a couple of times you mostly hear fluctuations in the click. First two or three passes it mostly sounds uniform, that is a identical click on each pass. On the third or fourth pass you usually have a change in the character of the click, that is more or less low freqs or change of amplitude of the click. Let the sample roll for a while and there are more or less frequent changes to the charachter of the clicks, something I can find no other explanation to than a somewhat sloppy interpretation to which sample is which thus causing that start- and end points differ from those specified.
It´s really annoying when you find (what you think is) a clean loop point and it plays smooth the first two passes and then starts clicking lightly every second or third pass after that. Is anybody else bothered by this, or am I the only one experiencing these problems? My first post on these forums was on this matter and I have not seen anyone else talking about this since.
