sampling while sequencing (Live style)?

I want to sample new sounds from external sources (not resample) at the same time as the internal sequencer is playing in the mpc1000, without any silent gaps in the music. This way i want to layer tracks and loops from outboard synths on the fly, kind of what ableton live is supposed to do. So i need to be able to record new stuff and set the new sounds up so that they loop nicely and fit the whole song structure, without stopping the music. Is this possible with the mpc1000?

And another thing, can i edit a sample (timestretch, truncating etc) which is NOT playing, while all other samples play?

That is called Direct Recording. MPC 2500 has it, and MPC 1000 OS 3 has it too.

You can edit samples (trim mode) while a sequence is playing with OS 3.

that is fantastic news. mpc1000 can then replace ableton live? and OS 3 is stable enough to be trusted?

mpc replace A. live? never......

timestretch works only offline not in realtime.

direct recording stop not with barlength...you have to edit/slice it!
i think thats not possible on the fly?!

ofcourse mpc1000 wont replace all of lives functionality, but what i am after is just having the sequencer running, choosing a pad, record a nice piano loop (with threshold nicely set so that i dont have to edit the start of the sample), play the new sample, choosing another pad, record another piano loop, have it play, etc, without ever interupting the flow of music. In that way i want to layer music, on the fly.

The only concern is editing the newly recorded sample so that it actually fits right as a loop in the song. Ofcourse i will need to crossfade the new loop so that the tail of the piano is not abruptly cut of at the end of the loop. Is this kind of editing possible while the sequencer is running (the sound being edited does not have to play, but atleast all other sounds)?

There is no fluidity in that!? I mean that the recording process should go without abrupting the sequencer and the playback anywhere, just filling pad after pad with sample after sample. Or is this guy not using direct recording to the max?

maybe one eaiser question would be, waht is NOT possible to do while the sequencer is playing? What modes or moments makes it stop in OS 3?

Do you have the MPC? If so, just try these things out! (not trying to be rude - just that first-hand experience is always best, in my opinion).

As far as I recall, most editing functions require the sequencer to be stopped, in OS2.1 at least. If you have any OS3 specific questions, I'd suggest you check the unofficial OS3 forum on this site.
