I have been over and over the manual and cant figure out how to get the pad to repeat itself as long as I hold it down in record mode. Does anybody know how I would set this up?

I have been reading both those pages and it dont seem to work. It will loop in the trim mode but not when recording. I have my mpc on while reading also. My os is 3.05.

and is a sure sign of 'bad' os design: the sample should set itself to LOOP ON automatically as soon as you start setting the loop points. Why would any one set up a loop point without the intention of looping the sample?

Good point.

this is a question that pops up a lot and it represents a difference in sequenced based loopers and pad based loopers.

if i ever want a sound to repeat itself, i don't program the pad to loop - i just tap it multiple times into the sequence. understand? the "loop" is specified not by how long i hold it down, it's by how many midi notes i insert into my sequence. i find this moer useful because you can control the velocity/filter/etc progression/recession.

we had a guy here a while back frustrated because he was putting entire phrase samples onto a single pad and was angry when they wouldn't loop seemlessly along with his sequence.

how much easier would it have been for him to just set it at the first tick of the sequence and allowed the single hit to loop as the sequence did?

remember - this is the chain of power. You, Sequence, Midi Notes, Pads, Sample. upsetting the order of that leads to Civil War, which almost never sounds good. too many drums, dead confederates, and fifes.

@ Antonym
I know its probably in the manual and if it is point me to the page number on how to do this method. Or if not in the manual can you tell me how to do it? I still cant get beats to sound good cause for 1 im new and for 2 all the pad hits are way off when I play the beat back.

the pads aren't off, it's you who is off! is your tc on or off? go into step edit and look at the numeric entries - are they seemingly random, or are they locked into 00s, 48s, 24s, etc?

i know you're new - there's no probelm with that. i suggest getting into step edit though - it's the fastest way to learn this thing. are you working with time correct on, or off? what's your tempo? are you using double resolution or not?

say you're using 180 bpm. your sample lasts the duration of 4 bars at this tempo. your seq is 8 bars. you have not chopped up your phrase sample, so it's all one pad, one entry.

put the first at 1:0:00 and the 2nd at 5:0:00.

press play. adjust tempo until it's smooth.

honestly, once you get better at it, you should be chopping each phrase sample note per note and then playing it back the way it sounded in the first place. this way, tempo is almost not an issue. this method is an advanced patch phrasing which gives you more control than the other method.

I know its me thats off and not the pads.. But I will look into it and mess with the step edit more.. And is there a way to find out the tempo of a sample? Cause when I sample say a al green song it never sounds the same when played back on the mp. Its like slowed down.

Nym, you seem to forget that looping can also be used to sustain a note...
So loping is useful. And badly implemented in the MPC1000. Have you ever made a good sustain loop only to notice that when actually played for a long time it starts clicking, then the click goes away, then back etc?

looping in the mpc is a bad idea space reasons. ya when i first bought my mpc i used to full around with full phrases on my mpc but then because of space i just took out the boom and bap out of the boom and baps. i wish the trim menu had a copy and paste like a wave editor then agin i wish i didnt have to unplug the usb everytime i use my mpc1000 usb feature.

nahh thats ok i dont mess with betas, plus what ur telln me is that 3.0 allows u to not unplug usb? why cant akai do the same? wtf, isnt that just strange. is there a reason that we have to unplug after each use?
