why purge is so slow??

Hi guys

i jus try to purge a 16mb full ram... it take 1minute more or less

i try after the upgrade to 128mb.... and after 10 minutes i just go out to take a coffe... when i come back the purge operation was finished...!!!

so why is so slow?
there' any trick to speed it up??? amazing slow

then after you upgraded to 128megs, its take alot longer??

well it me, if the stock ram was full and took less then a min to purge, and the 128 megs was full also but took alot longer, then it might be a simple case of having a crap load more in memory with 128.

did you check to see if the MPC is doing autoload after you upgraded the ram, did you update the OS after the ram upgrade.

i dont know, cuz if you upgraded the ram and did an os update, auto load might be on, and the stock mpc sounds are loading along with your own samples.

just a thought, since no one else answered, i was here and thought i would give it a shot.

i try inevery way... i think is not an autoload question, cause i usually clean all when i load my programa and sequence...
however when i full the 128mb ram and need to do a purge it takes a lot of time... actually it's easier save and load the program again (in the clean way) to free memory...

i try with every system and other... it's the same.. it's a long story purge the memory....

My experience is that it´s not the amount of memory occupied but the number of samples in memory that determines the time of purging. For example 5 big samples take less time than 90 short drum hits even though they both ocuppy the same amount of memory.

As stated it´s my experience, I have not made any controlled comparisons in order to make any conclusions. I´m out of town and don´t have my 1000 with me to check it out.

A possibility, which is highly unlikely as there actually are different time frames for purging, is that the whole RAM is scanned during purging. But the difference in time speaks against that.

Word, i have the upgraded RAM too and so i often record tons of different samples in one session and really load up the memory since i can.....After building my prgms i go to purge my samples too and when i do, if ive been working with a lot of big samples it will take a while to erase them all...however it shouldnt take a whole minute!...thats quite a long time, maybe it just seems that long?

understand.... i usually delete a lot of single hit to do prg, then the amoung of files to purge is something around 500... i understand it depends from the number of samples....

psoul you must do a hell of a chopping there if you have like 500 samples to throw away after making a program...
